I watched Ultraman Rising a week or so ago, and genuinely enjoyed it. I was really impressed with some of the color choices and lighting, and thought the new kaiju designs were pretty cool.

I liked it. I hope they make a sequel.

The editing in this video was hilarious. I haven't had any interest in this Ultraman based on the visual design and the tone from the trailer. Plus I didn't care for Shin Ultraman much, or the Netflix manga adaptation (or the manga for that matter), so I've been focusing on making my way through the Showa era. You having your mind changed might make me try it out. We'll see. I've been in Japan since mid-March, but in the area I've been working in (an out-of-the-way part of Shizuoka-ken), I have disappointingly found almost no Godzilla stuff at all. I have picked up a few Ultraman figures at least. I'll be finishing my job here in a little over a week, and I'm excited to spend a week after that in Tokyo before heading home. I really want to find some good Godzilla books (most of the ones I find are essentially just photo books). I did find a manga adaptation of the Heisei Godzilla vs Mothra, which I haven't read yet, but flipping through it, there are some noticeable changes from the movie.

Thanks for watching! My mind was indeed changed after watching it. We get into why in the full episode, but it helps that I am a father with a son at the perfect age for this stuff, and the story really plays on a parent and child relationship. Typically I hate that sort of stuff being injected into sci-fi and fantasy, but it was written with soul and purpose, not with an agenda. We watched the Japanese dub first since my son is more fluent at Japanese than he is in English. It made for a more authentic experience I suppose since the film is entirely set in Tokyo. Ended up rewatching the next day in English with some of my students. The movie was made in English, and the voice acting was great. The director of the film, Shannon Tindle, has been a huge Ultraman fan since the 70's and originally came up with the idea for the movie over 20 years ago. He also wrote the Academy Award nominated animated film Kubo and the Two Strings.

@@TOKYOTOYBANZAI The English side also made me wary, but I'll go ahead and try to check it out. Thanks for the in-depth response!

funny i just watch recent ultraman like blazar and arc. i would recommend a modern ultraman to many ppl as many as possible, especially for someone who watch ultraman before when they young. the respect in past series is something i don't find much in any recent western Franchise
