I’m definitely gonna record a day in my life before the semester ends, be on the lookout for it! When I arrived I got a temporary SIM card until I got my ARC (Alien Registration Card-ID of some sort), it really helped because it was unlimited. In terms of permanent numbers and bank accounts. I could only get my permanent number once I received my ARC, I still have my SA SIM card but I don’t think it roams well so I think it’ll stop working soon. If you’re on a contract you must ask your service provider to unlock your SIM card/phone before you come here or you’ll have issues with the SIM card you get this side. Bank accounts work well as well, my bank has the English version on the banking app so it’s easy to navigate and I can make transfers to my SA Bank account as well. In terms of using your SA bank account/card, depending on your bank you should notify them that you’ll be abroad so they don’t block/flag your card for suspicious activities. With my SA bank I just had to activate it on my banking app and it worked well, I have two SA bank accounts so just ensure you do that incase one bank card doesn’t work at certain areas then you can use the other.
