Smoking is one of my issues when I first moved to Europe, especially here in the northern part of Germany, where it's more common compared to the southern part. In that aspect, I kinda miss living in Manila (or even in Dubai where I lived before moving to Europe), where smoking is designated to specific areas and people are generally more mindful of others. Although new laws were passed to prevent people from smoking indoors (it used to be that it's allowed to smoke even inside restaurants), the amount of smokers here is way higher than in Manila and they can freely smoke outdoors or when dining al fresco. Inasmuch as I hate the smell of cigarette or cigar smoke, I had no choice but to adjust to their culture. Pre-pandemic, my family and I would always dine inside the restaurants whenever we dine out, except in the summer where there are less locals (thus, less smokers dining al fresco).

Here in japan smokers have a place where they can only smoke. And some restaurants here have some tables and rooms for smoker and non smoker.

In Australia there's an acknowledgement and smoking etiquette. There's designated smoker's zone and kids aren't allowed in that area. Smokers are conscious of babes,kids and non smokers.

Its normal here in barcelona that smokers stays outside to set in a restaurant so if you are not smoker you should be inside the restaurant.. when im new here that is my problem because i have a baby and i ended up fighting with them hahaha and there is no point when they will tell you, you should not be here if you dont like smoke.. well its there rules here so.. wala na ako magawa a dyan 😅😂

I live in europe and a smoker myself... whenever we have kids with us we sit in the non smoking area. But when it's just us adult and with a non smoker adult we sit in the smokers area but we blow are smoke away from the non smoking adult with us.

I relate to your sentiment as well regarding smoking etiquette or policy. I think that there should be one because 2nd hand smokers are even in much danger with regards to their health

For places that does not have a designated smoking area, I think there is an unspoken rule (?) that outside dining is for smokers and those who doesn't smoke should dine in. But considering our current situation, people should be mindful since there are non-smokers who now prefer to dine outside like you guys. Do not have any reference, this is just what I think. And I don't mean to offend anyone. 🤷‍♀️

Regarding smoking in public, bottom line is people should be considerate and thoughtful of people around them. I wish all smokers are like that but reality is they're not. My hubby is a smoker and I'm not so I always remind him and police him (ha ha ha) specially when we are in public.
