Life Inside the NICU

I was a micro preemie 1 lb 2 oz and I was in NICU for 4 months. I'm now a 25 year old. Some things still linger from my birth. My eyes I have retinopathy of prematurity, my vision is worsening. I'm thankful to be here though.

Destany I am old enough to remember when the rule was “ babies born under 2 pounds don’t survive.” It truly seems like a miracle that babies like you survive and thrive. Best wishes.

As soon as they can breathe & eat on their own should be sent home. Anything else beyond that is just prolonging pain & huge expenses. If more & more have to be done just to keep it alive it’s best just to let them go. By sending them home ASAP the directions one should take are clearly shown. Very rarely will Drs / Nurses speak that honestly to parents.
