Two corrections: * The Norwegian Navy intelligence-gathering ship "FS Marjata" shown at 1:13 is not the one that followed the Ramform design. There was another intelligence-gathering ship by the same name, now renamed "FS Eger", that had the Ramform design. The ship shown in the video is a traditional design, and is newer than the Ramform-designed ship. * The widest ship in the world is the "Pioneering Spirit".

It looks too weird. They should put a fake plastic prosthetic back to make it look less ugly. They could remove it at sea, by please, put it on in port so the public don't have to put up with this abomination.

In the 1980s I was a radio navigator for 3 years on a 212' seismic boat in the Gulf of Mexico. We moved at 5 knots and would only come to port for refuel of equipment repair. Crew changes were done by helicopter and landing on a rolling and pitching boat was thrilling and living on a rolling and pitching boat was challenging for some. This ship looks like working on land with its stability.

Live onboard will be grim. I was on the Ramform Banff and there were serious seasickness problems. Crew were offered a no-fault re-assignment if they found it too much. Crew turnover was way above the norm. The ram-form shape means that waves lift the bow and one side at the same time so the vessel does a combined roll and pitch. It was very unsettling.

This isn't the widest ship. Not even close. The Ramform Titan is ~70m wide. The T/T Nanny is 79m wide. And the "Pioneering Spirit" is even much, MUCH wider with 129m width. Yes, Pioneering Spirit has two bows, but from midship on aft-wards it is a monohull, so it definitely counts.

How about slam though? I read/heard somewhere that, while ships with a relatively large beam do indeed have good roll properties, their challenge can be their pitch properties where they can slam with nasty acceleration/deceleration into head seas. Maybe that’s only an issue for smaller vessels and these ones are big enough for that not to be a problem?

What happens to animal life which communicate through underwater sound emission. I suppose the guns terrific power sound pulses would completely saturate, disorient and disrupt marine life communication. This because we know that water being incompressible will transmit such powerful sounds for hundreds of kilometers.

well they do dock from time to time, when they need. Like the SPY ship Marjata (not the one in the video). It would come in to navy base regularly. There is no difference docking a ramform, than any other ships

@@heuhen It still goes into the dock and then rests on Concrete blocks when water is drained. but very few docks in the world can accommodate the width of 70m worlds largest cruise ship is only 48m wide and worlds largest container ship is 61m wide. Yes, the current Ramform ships can sail through the Suez Canal. If you search for "ramform titan suez", you'll find an 8 year old photo of the Ramform Titan sailing through the Suez Canal in November 2015, for instance. Suez Canal beam restriction: maximum beam of 70.1 meters, so that's pretty tight... While the Panama Canal is not accessible for the mentioned ship: before, the Panama Canal beam restriction allowed for a maximum beam of 49 meters, which was increased by the Canal Authority effective 1 June 2018 to 51.25 meters. I'm not sure about the smaller (narrower beam) Ramform ships and Panama.

So dont take my word for it, that this is safe. It may very well cause damage, in marine wildfire .

You would think the acoustic energy produced by the air gun arrays employed during seismic operations would bother, if not harm whales and other marine mammals, but from decades of study by JNCC certified Marine Mammal Observers have shown sometimes the opposite. Sometimes whales are attracted and both penguins and dolphins like to play right in the arrays as they fire. I spent 20yrs conducting these surveys and for a time was a certified MMO and have watched all 3 species interact w these operations.
