People always say the FD RX7 is better than the RX8 and they are only partly correct. The RX8 was better than the FD in almost every way. Better chassis, suspension, practicality, reliability and handling than the RX7. What let the RX8 down was Mazda’s “solution” to the emissions issue which caused major problems for most owners. Lightweight oil recommendations, poor exhaust porting and a lack of power from the Renesis motor killed what was otherwise one of the best Everyman sports cars ever made. I’ll always own at least one.
@bradyk26005 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you said except for the power part. I don't think the RX-8 has a lack of power, it's a quick car. Besides, it's already pushing the limits for NA 13B power and adding more would probably make it even more unreliable.

Much less stress! Bad day at work? Drive around for 15 minutes, you’ll be grinning ear to ear! Close family death? Drive an RX-8, you’ll be so terrified after 30 minutes of thrashing that you’re like “yeah, they died, I’ll miss them, but life goes on...”. Bored? Brap some flames and have fun! Literally works for sadness/depression/anger/rage/anxiety (at the minimum, you’ll either be smiling from ear to ear, or you’ll get out all that energy from screaming so loudly from the terror as both you and the rotors scream down the road and turns that give you a good workout from the side G’s). There is almost nothing an RX-8 can’t fix, it’s even really cheap entertainment! Plus, if you really did run out of money on gas and engine repair, if you take up biking to work, you’ll see a lot of health benefits and get really good exercise and be able to enjoy the outdoors (I don’t care if you say there is a foot of snow and ice, as a child I’d ride a tricycle the most when it snowed! Also had fun drifting motorized bikes in college in the parking lots when we’d have storm cancel classes and people were constantly falling on the sidewalks due to the ice, lol, me out messing around on my motorbikes was what I was doing then, too much fun, haha!) I mention this truthfully from personal experience, when my grandpa died, I was really sad, but then I thought “what would he do?”, well he always had 1 foot full gas or full brakes, sometimes both (I don’t think he had really great feeling in his legs), and his motto was “I don’t drive somewhere for fuel economy”, and so that day I drove it like he would outside of town on some new curvy roads, and well, after 30 minutes my voice was somewhat sore from all the screaming of terror, and I was smiling thinking “yeah, that’s exactly what he would do...”, then I left with some flaming exhaust shots and couldn’t help but smile the rest of the day.

Dude! I have a great tip for you - not just for your RX-8, but for any car. When you hear it, you’ll say “wow, how come I never thought of that!” Okay, here it is: take off your ugly white E-ZPass and… are you ready?… spray paint it FLAT BLACK! That way, it won’t visually “pop” when viewed from outside the car; instead, it’ll properly just… disappear. Just mask off the raised part with the logo & numbers and spray it with a couple of coats. Think about it; the only reason it’s ugly white is probably because no one gave what color it should be any thought! White was probably the cheapest, default color for plastic doodads like this. But flat black is way better. It will make your E-ZPass invisible. As it should be.

Found out one of my trailing coil packs was dead, so my last record was like 25 mpg (with a decent tail wind... but average was like 90+ mph). I still get single digit in town (like 8-9 mpg), but it’s Smiles per gallon that is important to me (just add the s to miles per gallon), as that’s why I drive a rotary! Otherwise I’d ride my bicycle (a 30 mile road race is fun, but it does take about 1 hour 10 minutes), but biking is fun too, just not quite as fast, lol!

Hi bro I am from Myanmar! I just bought a rx8 2011. It's only over 50000 km used. Can you recommend which oil to use? It's automatic transmission. Thanks
@jakegarrett81095 жыл бұрын
Me reading this: “AAaahhhh!”, you got the wrong one bro! The automatics firstly have a different engine (over 20% more power on the manual version), and because they don’t rev anywhere near as high, they don’t get hot enough to properly burn the carbon build up out since you don’t always have a 120mph speed limit to get it fast enough otherwise (meanwhile, I can just keep mine in first gear and get it decently hot accelerating hard in normal town traffic at 35-40 mph, at 40mph it’s 9,500 rpm, and heats up fast enough even though you’re not really track racing it), but with the auto you’re stuck with an eco friendly person shifting and so your engine doesn’t heat up as much either to burn out the carbon, so just really bad for the engine since it’s the carbon buildup that wears out the graphite seals. 50k miles is often when they die, so that’s pretty high mileage regardless what you’re thinking (make sure to redline it every time you drive it, through multiple gears or it won’t last long!). It can last much longer, but don’t forget to pre-mix your fuel and redline it. Plus by nature these cars are only good for wild driving, and I don’t know how many times I would have died having a manual transmission shifting at the wrong moment on a high speed corner, like probably every time I drive... Sometimes I need it to stay in gear at high revvs and low engine load for a second due to debris/rocks/ice/puddles, and if it shifted, well 1/10 second later I’d be in the wrong gear and hitting the curb, or I might be planning to drift it and I need to have instant engine response that I can count on). Look on Black Halo racing for engine oils, it varies some per temperature (do not use what Mazda said, some environmental hippy wanted to use the thinnest oil possible on all their piston cars, which is fine, but that somehow translates to the rotary engines also getting a terrible oil since they are indeed NOT piston engines! Also don’t use synthetic because it doesn’t burn as well, again, not an issue with piston engines). 30w oil is what some use, but it varies on climate (and since you’ll be changing oil often, possibly every thousand miles, you’ll probably use a slightly different oil for winter vs summer)

With another RX8 engine that’s very normal, they often only lasted 50k miles, so very normal. However, if it was swapped with a piston engine, then you lose most of the cool parts about the RX-8, and then it’s kind of pointless (you might as well get a Honda S2000 or Z350 if it doesn’t have the rotary), but replacement of the engine is very common, and that’s perfectly fine.

Thats a compleate lie. Rotarys are completely rebuild freindly. The first thing to usually go out is your apex seals, and those are replaceable.
@bradyk26005 жыл бұрын
@@patheticcliches You're correct about them being rebuild friendly but the apex seals are almost never the issue if the engine is running poorly/has low compression and just replacing the apex seals without resurfacing the housings (or checking if the coatings are within specs) won't fix the problem a vast majority of the time.
@patheticcliches5 жыл бұрын
Brady you are correct. The engine will need a complete rebuild regardles of the situation. Vankata, if you decide to buy one just keep in mind to oil mix your gas every refill at the pump and check your oil every other fill. Red line it once a day and try to drive it above 3000 rpm if possible. It should last you a while if you take good care of the engine. Ive had mine a year already and its gone through 2 brebuilds from owners who did not know how to take care of them. But after a year under my wing shes still running strong. 💪

If you haven't tried driving one, try it and then you'll know if it's for you, it's so much fun. It's just a more daily driveable version of the rx7 really. Just make sure you get a good one, absoluetly always never forget to do a compression test before you buy. Do that, and follow one of the many guides on youtube to buying one and checking for issues and you'll be fine. (I reccomend the video by driving madness in particular) The only thing is you need to be willing to work on your car (unless you don't mind shelling out money for other people ro fix your car) and have about $1k-1500 to spare in case something goes wrong. You don't need an amazing understanding of the car, just to know how the rotary works and how the rx8 is different than the rx7 and so on, and use rx8 club for anything you don't get. Don't be scared away if it's your first car either, I have an 04 manual as my first car and it's been great! However if you don't feel confident in your overall car knowledge and are sort of new to cars then just skip this car altogether or do more research on it before you buy it. Also note that you need gas often and that mods aren't cheap. You can save gas by putting it in a high gear though. Basically as long as you have some decent knowledge and get most of what I just told you through your head you'll be fine.
