What people don't realize is that after 7 years without an oil change is that the damage has already been done. That engine now is full of lumps of carbon that can get into the timing chain or oil ways at any time. Also, since the moment they skipped that first service, the wear rate will have greatly increased on internal components such as timing chain, camshaft / crankshaft bearings, piston rings etc. She'll be lucky if it doesn't need a new engine soon.

There was a recall on them for the oil feed pipe as I've just found out on mine

Engines to.small to pull a big heavy insignia . Great engine in a Corsa if honest power plants from the black edition corsa

Not sure why, but that's the same engine as US Cruze, encore, sonic, and trax. I own two of these vehicles and haven't had problems. I think the main issue with these is they run super hot for efficiency. So they are extremely quick to overheat if any issue arises, and they use a lot of plastic parts in the cooling system. Cooling system has been a plague for one of my cars. Both have had no issue with turbos, and no major repairs yet. One at 160k miles, other at 75k. I change the oil with mobil 1 full synthetic and use wix oil filters, every 8k miles. I think the 10k mile manufacturer recommendation is too long, unless you're only on highways. To be honest I follow the oil life display and change it around 20% life left. Not sure what mileage it would be, because it counts engine rotations and not miles for oil life.

Hi don't really want to state the obvious but if people are neglecting general maintenance IE servicing and most importantly oil changes even following manufacturers oil services schedule which are a joke in the first place any forced induction unit will suffer premature failure. I would recommend halfing the manufacturer oil change intervals even with non force induction power plants , the main cause of turbo failure is either the seal's or bearings

Alot of people that dont know about cars they think oil is oil and just keep addin when needed and this what happens or even worse they lucky the oil pickup didnt get blocked

If it's the shit chain engine the oil feed pipe that passes almost touching the exhaust manifold gets blocked up, to then fucks a new turbo as well if not changed....I've seen this twice...

That turbo has a 20 second warranty with a engine with that much carbon

I always wonder if removing carbon from the engine will end up damaging the turbo impeller.

I don’t think it works like that… As a mechanic, I believe that the whole carbon cleaning machine thing is a scam. The only effective way to remove carbon, in my opinion, is either walnut blast (on valves) or completely stripping the component that you need to clean and cleaning it with a solution

It's not unheard of. Worst one I've come across is 10 years, they were only doing top-ups. Surprisingly, there wasnt any carbon build up; I WAS PUZZLED!

In this occasion, and in occasions where oil contamination is bad, yes. If you use good oil and you change it frequently, I don’t see a reason why you’d need to flush the engine

Both the last two cars ive owned are vauxhalls and i love them but i know for a fact they are very fragile and unreliable if they're not looked after

Totally agree. Like BMW N47 engines, if they’re looked after well, the timing chains won’t snap

@mikelaraa thing is, I don't think they care....hopefully I'm wrong, but I see family members neglect services on their cars, time and time again. Oil changes are cheapest thing to keep expensive repairs away, we have a 1986 sierra xr4x4, oil changes every 3k miles, fully synthetic 5w/30 oil since we bought the car in 1992, and compressions on all 6 cylinders are within spec for a new engine at 117k miles and 37 years old, engines never been apart!
