Life of Indians near POK border | Turtuk and Thang village | Ladakh India

Turtuk is a village and the headquarters of an eponymous community development block in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. It is a small village sandwiched between the Karakorum Range and the Himalayas,and one of the northernmost villages of India, close to the Line of Control between India and Pakistan. Turtuk is situated in the Nubra tehsil of the Leh district, on the banks of the Shyok River. Geographically, the village is in the Baltistan region, which has been under Pakistani administration, except for five villages of the Turtuk block which are part of India. These villages form the only region in India populated by Balti people.Turtuk is known for its fruit, especially apricots.
Thang Village, which is also known as Dhothang or Thanga Chathang, is a tiny village located in the Chorbat region of Leh. It is often referred to as the northernmost village of India. Thang lies on the Line of Control that divides India and Pakistan and offers spectacular views of the majestic mountains.
Situated along the Shyok River, Thang Village was up until recently not open to tourists. Given its proximity to the LOC, visitors must procure permission from the army before visiting and submit certain documents; permits are required in order to cross Turtuk, Khardung La and Nubra Valley. There are guides who take visitors around the area and show them the fence, army bunkers of both the sides, Indian and Pakistani flags, etc. One might also be able to interact with the military personnel and visit a bunker. Moreover, the village is also quite famous for trees bearing apples, walnuts and apricots. Unlike in many military-controlled areas, photography is allowed here.

Most beautiful village.People have preserved their culture that is best thing I noticed when we visited ths village in 2022. Infact we provided training to women self help group of turtuk as well. I recognized couple of womens members of that group this vedio

Julley and thug je chay for this cultural exploration and sharing of Balti heritage in Turtuk and Thang. There on the apricot road, just as I once saw on the road to Kashmir, matriarchal society meets with patriarchal and a deep and respectful sharing occurs. For me, this culminates back in Leh where all aspects peacefully coexist as an example for humanity 🙏
