Talofa ALL! Thank you for taking the opportunity to view this video. I must be honest, this video was actually not supposed to be posted to the public as it was for a class and was private. Due to my lack of understanding of the operations of KZbin at the time (lol), I accidentally posted it for all. I hadn't realized this until I was notified by my sister several months afterward when my nephew found the video. I decided not to take the video down as I've seen that it has been somewhat informative for many. If you have found the video to obtain some flaws in your opinion, whether it be the contents of the speech itself or my appearance, I apologize and hope that you will forgive and understand my amateur performance as I am a student and simply human.
I encourage you all, whether you are Polynesian yourself or simply interested in the Samoan Islands, to continue to explore the cultures and learn about the beauty of these islands. There is a special union in the lives of the people of the Islands of Samoa and of Polynesia. Join us and welcome to our community!
Best wishes,
Maletina

Guam would be awesome, if all the trash and appliances were cleaned up.. You go along the roads and behind every tree line is tons of trash, garbage bags, fridges, car batteries, tires, wrecked vehicles etc. I mean tons of it!. Who does that!? It's a shame.

Hi Tina, I was just scanning through youtube and found this video of yours. Then I had to load it so I can watch what you have there about the island. Wow! I am not surprise about you talking about your life on the island. It feels like yesterday when you mention your upbringing and how your mom works just to provide for your family while your dad was in the mainland doing the same thing. Also, your story makes me think back about the memories we made during our 5th and 6th grade back home. It's good to hear that you are doing well these days. Alofa atu mo oe ma le aiga atoa.

I am a Palagi who spent 110 days in American and Western Samoa. I am looking forward to returning so that we can implement much needed water solutions....lower kilowatt costs....fresh vegetable growing and much more. I live in Cleveland, Ohio and had it up to my ears with all the cry babies here. Walk a mile in Samoan shoes and see what real life and living is all about. It is time to make the Samoan Islands a destination equal to or better than Fiji. Manuia Samoa!

Lol, despite the fact that I live on the opposite side of the world as you, I also grew up with these same questions (mostly asked by people from the uk who weren't even citizens but just permanent residents), and it used to irritate me a lot when I was younger because although I'm ethnically predominantly Samoan, I was born and raised in New Zealand and people often expected me to be a "certain way" or whatever their perceived idea of what a Samoan person was. Some of the more insulting comments were: "why aren't you as dark as other Samoans?" or "why do you speak really good English?" etc. Most of the time I was more kiwi than the people asking the questions but oh well, that's ignorance for you. The last time I was in the islands I was four years old, now 20+ years later I'm finally going back for a visit and your description of life there has made me more excited than I already was.

What hasn't been mentioned is the concept of TIME🤣🤣🤣🤣. I only recently visited Samoa in the past year. Spent 3 months in total and one thing I noticed is they have a lot of time. When driving through the villages I saw a lot of people sitting by the road or in their fales. Whenever we arranged a gathering or meeting it always started 2 or 3 hours later, ie. Samoa time.

Charleston Chan Ming, that's disrespectful. They dropped the "Western" part, and they wish that you respect that. Show some respect. Or at least refer to the country as Independent Samoa, which is a part of the full official name (Independent State of Samoa). Samoa has asked many to respect its name change, yet you people are so slow to get it.

ok. first thanks for sharing this even if by accident :) so reading down through the comments gives me more questions. and some may be tough questions. there seems to be people here from several islands. obviously there are many pacific islands from tahiti, to samoa, to fiji, to papua, up to the filipines, etc... so what are the different groups? and they are all similar and different yeah? it seems there is a kinda of kinship between people from these many different islands yeah? but also like a competition? some of them are their own countries and some are kind of parts of others? and some have been um influenced by different countries. and it seems a mix of good and bad feelings about that too. so like what is the same and what is different about alot of them? some more developed and other almost not at all? what is life like? what do people do? what about school and jobs etc? how do people make a living? what is quality of life? sounds like guam has a bad reputation about trash. and some guamanians get really defensive bout that. do alot of people from the islands get touchy and defensive about alot of things? or is that just some of them? but i see some have some humour about them. i see in some that religion seems to be a big part, like catholicism. are there islands where most of the people don't care about religion? many seem kind of naive or something. i see that on at least one or two military mindset seems big. are there others where it is not? and now that many of you have lived other than the islands how has your perspective changed? and i know some of you are living in the united states. but are there any of you that have lived in other countries and can make the comparison between that too? i'm from the states. born in texas. dad was army. grew up traveling, spent almost 10 years in europe and lived in about half of the u.s. spent time in the carribean and thailand and japan. i got to say that the united states is really messed up. its just crazy how bad the legal and political and social and financial system is here in so many ways. too many laws. too much prison system. too much poverty. a huge disparity among people. too much fighting about ideas. fighting about religion. about skin. about healthcare and school for crying out loud. but its got alot of good people too. i'm just really tired of the crazy stupidity etc... that i didn't see so much of anywhere else i've been. i live in new orleans now. while there are many great things about it there are also many bad things. so where would you raise your kids? what would you teach them in this world we have now? i fix sailboats and yachts. can i get work there? is there a university? what about beaches? or is there a better pacific island for these things? and i have a baby girl, is this a good place to raise a daughter? hiking? mountain biking? camping? climbing? swimming? diving?

What are the odds of landing a job as a teacher/ bank teller/ or even at the McDonald’s in American Samoa? I’m mexican American n I want to move there but am honesty trying to research odds of job availability. Random I know but I just seperate fromMy husband (Samoan in New Zealand) and my brain really wants to go back to life on an island but where I’m a citizen. I didn’t apply for residency just had work visas... but I’m American so thinking fast on this idea. Hope that someone can lend kind input

Christina Gurrola, you can get a job there. It's been a while, so I don't have much of an idea as to how much they pay. But I think you could do better if you are on contract as a teacher.

Christina, applying for a job there is no different than applying for a job in the United States, so as long as your an American. You don't need a work visa. That would be awesome for you to teach in American Samoa. If you are catholic, there is a catholic high school for girls and another for boys, or the public schools. Keep me posted:)
