Life on a tiny island. Today we're learning about planting taro and how to weave a basket and a plate. Welcome to Niue! It's a remote island nation and the only way to get there is by taking a flight from Auckland.

In a world where everything is so "digital" and daily life runs on technology, its nice to see you and Taku's channel showcase traditional, old world ways of doing things. Love seeing old world methods and learning at the same time!

Vietnamese cook ox tail soup with taro, lots of chunky cracked pepper, fish sauce, at the end throw in green onions and shiso-kusa otherwise known as fresh cumin herb. yummy. U can replace ox tail w pork spare ribs

In northern Philippines, we use grated taro in our sinigang to thicken the sour tamarind broth. In another dish, we sautee onions and garlic and bits of pork belly and shrimp paste then use dried taro leaves and braise it in coconut cream until the pork is tender. This dish is called Laing (lah-ing). I think you two would love it! Hope to see Niue one day! Living my life vicariously through you guys! Looking forward to every video! Fuck the haters Jocelyn! Jocelyn! Have you ever heard of Dan Hernandez from Television? He's been doing the "Sport Fishing" TV show for almost 40 years in Southern California. He's a legend in SoCal but still so chill. The only reason I'm asking is because he started a KZbin channel and he's been doing lives. Tonight the topic of doing collaborations to bump up his subs was mentioned by a viewer. Fisherman's Life was mentioned. And he said he did go fishing with Mattz once and had a collab planned, but the pandemic hit, and MATTs couldn't do it. But he did mention Taku! And how cool it would be to have you guys come down to Dodger Stadium with him when (I forget his name because I'm not into sports-Pitcher) the Japanese baseball star comes to town. It was mentioned that Dan is like the Huel Howzer of Sport Fishing and how he deserves a Simpsons cameo character too. He mentioned that he's probably the only "Latino" that's been on television consecutively almost every week for 37 years in TELEVISION HISTORY. Of course one of the viewers said, "Dan, you're the only guy who's been on television consecutively for 37 years, if not just for fishing" He's really humble and loves to do everything on his own meaning negotiating programming contracts with networks and etc . I just thought I'd mention it. I think you'd enjoy it for sure. You guys can each do an episode. He's definitely a Southern California legend. I think just meeting him and hearing his stories from way back in the days would be worth it all by itself. This guy is like living history. He's been so prolific in television when it comes to fishing around the world. And even personally negotiating contracts for his tv series personally, in each country. He's so understated, it's like he hasn't changed at all. Still doing free fishing events for kids every month, still knows all the OG personally involved background professionals in the industry, including DFW commanders, and if he doesn't know them, they definitely know who he is. Sorry for the long comment. Just wanted to shoot the idea in your direction. No need to mention me personally just say you heard through the grapevine. Thanks for living the life for us all guys,! Hawaiians make pounded cooked taro with some salt into a paste called POI. Samoans bake grated taro in the ground oven “Umu” then braised in coconut milk and caramelized sugar. That masterpiece is called Fa’ausi. Ooooh yeah!

Yes, another name for taro is elephant ears/dasheen. Here, in Hawaii, just the tops of taro bulb(corm) + 6ins of stem are used for replanting

I don’t think that taro would grow good here on our farm here in northern Indiana, that’s really neat how it grows.

Hawaiians eat taro, we call it kalo. And we mash it up to make poi.

Am pretty sure there are dry-land lo'i here in Hawaii but am most familiar w/wet-land vary, grown in flooded taro farms. If am remembering rightly, there are approximately >200+ varieties/strains of taro... A-L-O-H-A from Hawaii
