Anna Marie Everest, age 73 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Hunterdon Care Center, after a long and hard fought 22 year battle with breast cancer.
Anna was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on March 6,1951, to the late Matthew and Helen (Helecki) Chciuk. She is survived by her children, Mitchelle Drulis and husband, Michael, Danielle Griffin and husband, Ron, Guy Chad and wife, Sasha; her grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Torrance, Jillian, Ella, Miles and Chloe; the father of her children, Guy L Everest; her brother, Matthew “Tommy” Chciuk; her brother-in-law, Gerald Everest; two sisters; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Anna graduated from Battin High School, an all-girl public school in Elizabeth, NJ. She went on to work in the Essex County Public Defender’s office before relocating to San Diego, CA, with her family where she eventually retired from Sempra Energy.
In 2002, she returned to New Jersey to begin her treatment and spent many years living in both New Jersey and California, traveling back and forth, allowing her to enjoy time with her grandchildren on both coasts.
Anna was proud to have been a girl scout leader for both of her daughters’ troops and was involved with the PTA at her children’s schools when they were young. She especially loved traveling and planning the annual family vacation that guaranteed a full uninterrupted week of spoiling her grandchildren. The practice of her faith was very important to her and she could often be found reading scriptures and listening to her favorite sermons.
Through life and in retirement, Anna worked tirelessly supporting veterans’ organizations and she always sought to help those in need. Holidays brought her joy and she would beautifully decorate her home always claimed Easter as her favorite holiday.
She balanced her long-term illness with an overwhelming zeal to live life that was contiguous to all who knew her and her absence will be equally and painfully felt.
