A couple of things to keep in mind, as far as power and warranty: While torque rating is less, 100% is available at 1500 rpm’s, vs 100% torque at 5500 + rpms with competitors. Additionally, hp is rated to the wheels, not the crank; there is no misleading info. Fun fact: VW also likes to rate their mpg at around 5mi less than their true mpg ratio. And the warranty, while it seems shorter, you get 2 years of free maintenance.. These new VWs are expected to travel up to 10k miles, or 1 year, per oil change. This means that you don’t have to come out of pocket until your 3rd oil change.. These are things that all of their competitors, that you pointed out, can not stack up against. “Under” promise, over deliver is the striving factor of VW, along with higher safety ratings, performance indexes, technology packages, true fuel economy, and luxury feel/look, without the luxury price.

We have a 2020 Tiguan with the 4 Motion AWD. We've been quite satisfied with it in everyday driving and on interstate trips. It is true that "stoplight racer" 0-60 numbers are not impressive but in everyday driving it is adequate. Mileage has been good on the interstate, and the torque is good for mountain driving. As a previous poster mentioned, the torque comes on at lower RPM's, and driving the steepest mountain grades in Utah was no problem. The seats are supportive and comfortable on long trips and the backseat legroom is generous. Another plus is the transmission, which is not a CVT.

@peterbattle57024 жыл бұрын
Prime Autotainment the vibration/rattle is somewhere in the front suspension. Vw replaced a front shock already, still though when going left on the highway the steering wheel shakes... feels like a ball joint or wheel bearing. The transmission I believe is software or the fluid level is incorrect. When I bought my 2013 jetta the engine oil and manual gearbox was over filled and caused issues. They corrected that, and the car still drives runs great after 80k miles but that car was $10k less than the Tiguan and way less complex. I'm not a big fan of the Tiguan. As a GTI owner I looked forward to testing it when I was looking for a crossover last year. But also as a GTI owner I was disappointed in the performance of the otherwise awesome EA888 engine. Selecting the "sport" mode improved the performance markedly but it was still a disappointment. It's worth noting, though, that the performance deficit can be eliminated completely with a Stage I ECU tune for about $700. And contrary to claims that such a tune will invalidate the VW's warranty, that's not the case unless a warranty issue can be shown to result directly from the ECU tune. The likelihood of which is virtually zero. As far as the value of a 6 year/72K warranty vs a 4 year/50K warranty is concerned, the change is not a good one from a PR perspective. However, a couple of points should be kept in mind. First, the VW warranty is still among the best in the industry compared to the typical 3 year/36K warranty offered by almost every other manufacturer. (The KIA/Hyundai 5 year /60K bumper-to-bumper warranties are the only major exceptions.) Second, the inclusion of two years of scheduled service/maintenance amounts to an average savings of over $600 to every buyer. From a consumer standpoint those guaranteed savings should be compared to the possible savings on issues covered by a warranty in years 5 and 6 of the 2019 warranty. Considering that only a tiny minority of buyers will ever have to redeem that warranty coverage, it's obvious that for the vast majority of consumers $600+ in the pocket is a better deal than warranty coverage five to six years in the future.
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
I was curious what you’d think of it as a GTI owner. I wish they could have tuned it differently but oh well. Thanks for the word on that ECU Tune though! Also a great point in the savings with the maintenance included now. The VE PR guy that I sent the videos to actually responded to me talking about that too, which is good to hear. By the way..do you have the auto or manual on your GTI? Last year I drove the auto and currently I’m driving the manual
@stephenhendricks1034 жыл бұрын
@@PrimeAutotainment My GTI is a DSG (i.e. dual clutch). Though it's often called an "automatic" transmission, it's actually amanual transmission with an automatic clutch. Until I got my MK6 GTI ins 2013, I'd never been without at least one MT vehicle in my garage for decades. When I bought my second GTI in 2018, I didn't hesitate to get a DSG version again. For me it's a perfect compromise and has several advantages. () When I added a Stage I tune to my previous GTI I didn't have to upgrade or periodically replace the clutch. The stock VW MT clutch is challenged in handling the extra power of the tune, the DSG faces no such issue. And though straight line 0-60/1/4 mile performance isn't a high priority for me, the DSG is significantly quicker than the MT version. I used to miss the three pedal action of an MT but I figure what's good enough for F1 and European GT drivers is good enough for me. :) () We face horrendous traffic conditions in the Seattle metro area. There's no great pleasure in constantly shifting in stop and go freeway traffic when the speed ranges from 0 to 30 mph for miles on end. I leave the transmission in auto mode in those conditions and move the lever to the right and shift manually otherwise. The DSG holds a selected gear all the way to red line before shifting and since I don't make it a practice to constantly bang up against red line (unlike my previous Mazda RX8 that drove like 600 cc Japanese motorcycle) I almost never experience an automatic shift in manual mode. () My teenage daughter has recently gotten her license and she loves to drive the GTI (rather than the family's KIA Sorento). As a result of a minor birth defect a vehicle that shifts automatically is much more convenient for her than a manual transmission. The GTI's DSG means a lot to her and therefore to me. () As I said, I've probably had 20 MT vehicles over the years. And I have no quarrel with those who prefer three pedals. But the GTI's DSG is so versatile in providing both "automatic" and "manual" control of gears, I wouldn't be without it.
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
Stephen Hendricks yeah I should have better clarified but I loved that DSG last year. It was so quick and smooth. Some dusk clutches I’ve driven have been a jerky pairing with the vehicle but I thought it was perfect for the GTI. I’ve sadly never owners a manual but drove one occasionally in high school, otherwise I have limited experience with one so it’s not as fun as it is for some people and I can’t shift as fast as I’d like lol. I can only imagine shifting through that traffic and how your daughter would enjoy driving the Golf GTI. Thanks as always for stopping by and I appreciate the input! Cheers 👍

@@PrimeAutotainment You're not alone, my friend. I'm sure if you took driver's ed in HS you learned to drive an AT. I'm old as dirt so my first car (a '54 Kaiser) had an MT and I drove MT's almost exclusively for many years. As far as skill in shifting an MT, you're not alone on that score, either. No human being can shift as quickly and surely as a good DCT. And that's why vehicles like the Ford GT other true performance cars come with DCT's. A reasonable argument for a manual transmission is that it's a more "involving" experience. But I'm old enough to recall when power steering was an optional feature on most cars and the complaint was widespread that "real men" didn't need such assistance. Frankly, I think much of the "save the manuals" proclamations reflect much the same sentiment. :)

For the headlights - I said all except the top trim have these lights. I didn’t exclude the top trim. And the last dislike, I’m talking about features the top trim in particular doesn’t have, that most other vehicles in this class have. This is the trim level Volkswagen sent to review.

I gave up the Tiguan last year for the Ugly headlights
@cussmustard47483 жыл бұрын
Most freeway speed limits around me have 65 mph speed limit and people treat it as a speed minimum. When I test drove the Tiguan it accelerated decently until 55 mph when it upshifted ( full throttle ) at which point the power just flat lined and it really struggled. I’m not kidding when I say it felt like it took the same amount of time to go from 55 - 65 as 0 - 55. I’m not looking for neck snapping acceleration with this kind of vehicle; however, my old crv pulled second gear until 65 mph and gave much more confidence while merging onto freeways.

should have got the SEL-P package those halogens are bootsy. the engine is actually stupid powerful but for some reason VW is turning it down, perhaps for emissions? theres a plugin tune that puts it just over 300hp. kinda sucks cause the old tiguan has 220hp. that 171hp power is crap

VW made 2 crucial mistakes and just goes to show why we cant ever have nice things. They lowered the HP, instead of using a different engine since they decided to make the tiguan bigger and the old one was just about right in size/performance. Second, they cut that warranty, as if people weren't already looking at VW cockeyed for reliability, as if the sugar coating yuppies don't care, and they really don't. You needed that warranty now you're seeing shit sales and trying to knock off 10 percent of the msrp just to sell it. They cant make a fuel efficient engine with even decent power and there seem to be lemons coming out of the factory as people say they went by service schedules.

@@PrimeAutotainment not cool from VW, i just got this car with the 2.0 tdi, it has 150 bhp, awd, 340 N/m torque and does 45 mpg on highway with the DSG gearbox. It has a particle filter and Adblue system, this is the downside of it, it has to meet the Euro 6 emission requirement.

VW seems to have a very long development cycle. And is almost always low on features compared to other models.

How so? It has a longer warranty, a CD Player, wireless charging, a turbo engine, a sliding and reclining second row, a real spare tire, lots of storage, heated steering wheel, LED Headlights, navigation, cargo cover, tinted privacy glass, a rear camera washer nozzle, doesn’t require premium fuel, great alloy wheels, power lumbar, leatherette or leather or cloth, map pockets behind both seats, huge map pockets in all 4 doors (carpeted), and a tilt & telescoping wheel, android auto and Apple CarPlay , vivid and clear 8” infotainment screen, around view camera and so much more !

No offense but I really think this is a very poor review. All you talk about mostly is electronic gizmos and gadgets. You don't talk about build quality of the suspension, durability of the transmission, brake performance, handling, Etc. It's completely with what is wrong with our entire automotive industry today and people who buy cars. Most don't even know whether their car has a 4-cylinder or a 6 cylinder. They only know if it has Apple carplay! It's a sad State of Affairs when Electronics are all car reviewers talk about.
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
j E obviously you didn’t hear anything I said in the first 15 seconds - this isn’t a review. Besides...build quality and durability aren’t known on a brand new vehicle. We won’t know how well it holds up for several years. I talk about braking, handling, acceleration, ride comfort, NVH, daily driving, ergonomics, exterior details/features, cargo space/details, front/back seat space and comfort, interior details, power train details, etc in the “review”. That’s not what this video is. My own personal vehicles don’t have Apple CarPlay or nearly the amount of electronics these do...as I don’t give a shit about new technology, personally.
