on a more serious note to students: one of my brother's friends committed suicide during o levels... I assume the stress got to him. I was 4 years older than he was at that point, so all I felt was anger because I knew there was life beyond O's and it is DEFINITELY worth sticking around for. no matter your results kids, your life has barely started and it's never too late to be who you want to be!! all the best 💕

My L1R5 was 6 points without minusing CCA. Went to poly instead of JC and everybody thought I was crazy. I didn't do that well cos I was very playful and sick of studying. Graduated poly with GPA of 2.7. Couldn't get into local U and was extremely devastated. Then I went to work and get experience for few years first and save up along the way. Took private degree in PSB under University of Western Australia. Got first class. Now I'm in NUS taking masters sponsored by company. Moral of the story is : it's ok to fuck things up along the way, you'll eventually get there. Also, it's not a bad idea to work after your diploma first. That will make you more valuable than fresh grads who have no experience at all.

L1R5 26 I studied my combine humans 3 days before olevel especially my history lol I studied 2 chapters only Then my puré sciences I don’t really study much but just a C6 for both I focus on my amath more than others which I got only B3 == Then my emath fck I tot I can get A2 at least cuz it’s super easy Then end up C5 fml I didn’t do half of my paper for my paper 2 english English got D7 Flash back during steaming sec 2 ok la wasn’t that pro but L1R5 is like can go normal kind of JC around 10 la So my ego start to go up when i went to sec 3 and never study much and never ask anyone in class if I not sure .. My amath teacher (ALAN CHENG, a male teacher) keep telling me I can’t go JC and told me to drop my amath .. and I am useless and stuff (please it’s damn demoralizing, the fact that i am in the best class among the express stream. Whenever I see smart kids I got demoralized In class ? Fml .. But in poly I was so paranoid .. and I abit traumatized alr by olevel Then no choice whagever I don’t know I stay back So whenever classmates laugh at me why I so paranoid I will just say so what I stupid mah What u expect if i smart i won’t be here .. from there my ego starts to drop and whatever I am not sure of I will ask anyone .. and everyone So I will study not at very last minutes ahha So ok la got play time also But not so much of slack la in poly cuz was traumatized during olevel Eventually poly GPA got 3.5 only :( But nvm better than nothing Then went to SIT Wah TUM chemical engineering .. was so xionggg 2 years of 4 semesters and 6-7 modules per semester 1 day can cover 6-7 topics Everyday need go school (9am - 5:30 Pm) and end so late that I will need take naps before I wake up at night to study ..at 9pm Every end of months there’s final exams And we don’t have project works to back up I quit after that and went to SIM RMIT accountancy .. Fml ok it’s better got off days to study .. Cuz I am very new to accounting ahahah never learn POA in olevel So I need to study everyday ahha Ok got distinctions and graduated dec 2020 And 2 weeks after final exam I got a random call for a job from an MNC Such a blessing to me during this pandemic since economic is bad also but got a call when I never even apply that job at all.. So random Actually if you never expect anything it will just come to you Oh wells my struggles from youth till adult Idk how to say my struggles ahaha Moral of the story : - Don’t plan and don’t expect just work towards it and give your best - Let your ego down ..Ask more when you are lost - DO NOT DO LAST MINUTES WORK

My 'O' Level results were awful. I had an L1R5 of 22, and I could only minus 1 point for CCA. Was really upset that I couldn't get into the course I was interested in, but I made the best out of everything and did quite well in poly! Managed to get into a local uni as well. As a Millenial who just entered the workforce not too long ago, trust me, they never ever ask for your grades, they will just ask what can you contribute as a person to the workplace and company. Your skills you learnt in ITE/poly/uni plays 50% of the skills, the other 50% will be outside of your curriculum THAT will be a determining factor in getting jobs like those of leadership skills, multitasking, how you bridge gaps between people, conflict management etc. Don't be too hard on yourself, I flunk my first year poly also but I was able to pick up in yr2 and 3. You will figure a way out. You may not be the brightest in school, but when it comes to the outside world, you might be the one they look for. Keep a positive attitude will go a long way.

Kids, I'm so sorry that most of you guys aren't given enough opportunities to see the world, when the society is far beyond school and test papers after test papers. There are so much more things for you to grow to manage the real working society. Be it communication skills, teamwork, being resourceful etc. The exams in the system drives and hones your skills in logical, analytical thinking for basic survival skill in education esp the STEM, in a fixed manner. Great to have those skills in you to move you ahead. But what you need to do is to apply these skills unto real life experiences in making choices in the future. Understand that this is one of your biggest choice in life of 16/17 years. Make a choice that you think it will make you happy and benefit the most after weighing

To sec4s worried for olvls, fret not. Just put in the hard work especially after prelims. Get enough rest so you won't burn out too which is very important. My MYE raw score L1R5 was 30, at the end I've got a 14. Don't neglect more than 2 subjects (one F9 will mess up your L1R5) and drop one subject if you must (if you take 8 subjects). Study smart>study hard.

Depending on your interest. My friend had raw 6 and final was 2. But he chose design in poly- parents are in design industry. So.... He kinda got influenced. And did quite well in the line afterwhich. If u know what is your interest and knows it clear, why not?

@harry krishton chill chill. I have friends who are clueless of what to do at 16. Thus going JC is like buying time to figure as well. Haha. That is another way of thinking. However, ultimately, at this age, if you (the inquirer) have the privilege and freedom to choose, go with your heart (after using all knowledge and analytical skills that you have aquired+ the advices you have received). There are so many ways to live and we are one of the many ways. You walk yours. Everyone will have their own unique encounters based on your own choice. Life is exciting ahead! You never know what will happen in poly/JC, but my personal take is, if you know what you want and justify it, be brave to take it. Don't do the same as your peers just because of peer pressure. I have made choices in life that's not in the norm in my circle. But I'm truly happy about it cuz it's my choice and no regrets thus far. Whatever you choose, it's part of your journey in life for you to grow, with different type of nutrients for the future. Cheers!

I was from an "atas" school too so majority go JC but I went to poly. my advice: just don't get influenced by your friends and go to JC just because that's where your friends are going. Do what you want to do. If you think JC is the path for you, go ahead, but if you think poly is better, go for it! Don't feel pressured to go to JC just because that's what's expected of you. I also found JC to be too stressful so that was one of the reasons why I chose poly instead. Also because I prefer to learn more hands on. If you already have in mind what you want to study, maybe going to poly straight is better. But if you're still unsure, going to JC will give you some more time to think it over. If you're interested in a particular industry but not sure about which diploma to choose specifically, most polys have a common programme which allows you to pick the diploma after 1-2 semesters. That way you get to understand the field better before choosing which diploma course to enroll in. Diploma is more useful in terms of finding work because you learn actual skills so you can work after graduating or go uni if you want. But if you go JC is like die die need to go uni cause if not you don't really have any specialized skills so you gotta do well. Of course, not saying go poly slack cause poly is not easy either. In fact, poly might be even more competitive than JC because we're fighting for spots in uni. I can tell you the kind of stuff I've heard competitive people in poly say, I've never heard even from people in my atas secondary school. No matter which path you choose, remember to work hard and you'll get what you want. All the best! Edit: I forgot to mention attend open houses!! Note sure if this is already too late oops but open houses are a good way to find out more about a school and the subjects / courses they offer and to find out more about what it is really about. Of course sadly, covid has not allowed physical open houses to happen but there are still virtual ones. If you've missed the open houses for some schools, you can still at least check out their websites for more info

Guys-O lvl doesn’t matter but Uni GPA does 😭 With a second lower (3.5/5, avg is B), I can’t even apply to most jobs because their system auto reject based on GPA. I wished I had learned more soft skills when I was younger because in uni the assessment is split into presentation, project, class participation and not just exams. Not that it matters but I got 7A1 and 3A2 (I was a bookworm because my dream was to be a doctor but I ended up studying another random course I know nothing about)

@@mentoscaricature164 I couldn’t get into medicine so my PARENTS chose NUS Business, but I had NO background in econs, and I also cannot talk or present well 😖, I’m only good at math lol. and I’m aware that I have my tuition Teachers to thank for my good results (I think I’m just hardworking but not smart?). So uni was a shock, there is no 10 yr series or tuition, cannot prepare for ppt or ad hoc speeches. So I got lots of B- and C+.
