The mast does set off Alan wonderfully. In combination with the handrail, it adds the maritime technology look of a Russian fishing trawler. Well done. Also a fan of the heavy duty Gorilla Tape. Haven’t had it start to flag off even in winter here in Canada. Of course we’re a lot warmer than you will be, -25° for us.

It might be worth putting a loop down as the wires enter the mast. I know you have a glad, but if you add the dip down it lessens the water collecting right next to the glad. Interesting update 2x👍

As you may have noticed, taping the ends of the wire together helps a lot with this kind of job. Taping a coat-hanger or other stiff wire there also facilitates running the wires.

To eliminate concerns regarding fastening dissimilar metals, use Tef-Gel. It forms a thin nonconductive barrier and is commonly used on sailboats for putting aluminum rivets into stainless steel or stainless bolts through aluminum parts. The stuff works!

Re the mast stays, you can actually buy hand hydraulic crimpers and swage your own cables. 305m rolls of 3 or 4mm stainless rope are very reasonable as are stainless turnbuckles. All this stuff is used by the DIY home deck brigade. You need 3 or 4mm thimbles and ferrules (very cheap). The turnbuckles have left and right hand thread on the same turnbuckle so you can tighten them by hand. They have locknuts at each end so you can lock them off. What all this means is you can make your own mast stays for the same cost as having them made and if you have the space you can take the whole lot with you and make repairs etc. BTW, To cut the wire rope they make a special cutter which for the modest cost (a tenner or something) I'd recommend as it beats wrapping the rope in tape and cutting with an angle grinder cutoff disc. The cutter cuts it very cleanly without the strands unfurling.

I did consider doing the rigging myself, but I just have so much to do in the next fortnight, let alone learn a new skill. The professional riggers were very good value for money, and they arrived done, next day.

Unrelated to this video but so far few comments so you might see question. Have you considered replacing the drivers seat? Seems like it would be quite uncomfortable for a long shift. Suggest a nice adjustable car seat from BMW, Mercedes etc… with height adjust for different size drivers and side bolsters to keep person in chair if boat rocks. Or at least a nice boat seat with movable arm rests, again to keep driver in chair as boat rocks. ~Peace

Yes I'm either going to really improve the existing one, or replace. Probably the former, as it's a good, strong moulding.

@@AlexHibbertOriginals I'd reccomened using a fur rug on the seat, I've used one for motorcycle touring a lot and it makes a hell of a difference over a leather seat, plus fur has material benifits over other comfort devices

Comment on being overly cautious with the wires . Most recreational sailors seek to avoid bad weather. You’re planning on going into a bad weather zone. Best to be much more cautious then they are

just a thought, with the turbine being the tallest part of the boat. would it make sense to have a lighting strike rod next to it? so if it was hit, it wouldn't travel down the wires and damage equipment inside of the boat? i picked this up from small wind turbines being installed on houses. they seem to install a lighting rod to prevent it from traveling down the turbines wires into the house. i may be wrong but i thought it was worth mentioning :)

So sow much more did the stock turbine stabilizer actually weigh? Must have been alot if it is worth swapping it out, the ice accumulation alone could be many times the weight saved by that stabilizer so I'd hope that boat has plenty of extra righting moment because it's going to need it.

So does your transom platform from last episode, the angle iron is interesting, but 90% of your weight support will come from whatever brackets you use to cross the hypotenuse at the ends and in the middle.
