To be saved, we must acknowledge our separation from God and that we are hopeless without His help. We can realize that without reaching an actual state of helplessness, but some people have to get to that point before they will acknowledge their sins and receive God's gift of salvation. I'm not sure why, except that it's a part of sinful pride. We humans tend to think we can make it all on our own, that we don't need God. Life teaches us otherwise, sooner or later. It's important to remind people that we are not promised tomorrow, and leaving one's eternal destiny to 'tomorrow' is a foolish, risky decision. Thanks for the teaching, Dr. G.

To be saved, we must acknowledge our separation from God and that we are hopeless without His help. Today’s question made me think. While some people seem to have to reach a state of utter helplessness before they acknowledge their sins and receive God’s gift of salvation, others do not. Because we know God, have experienced Him, we may tend to think that everyone does. Some people don’t acknowledge their sins and receive God’s gift of salvation because they have never encountered or heard about God. We can’t assume people choose to stay in sin and reject God’s gift of salvation. Not everyone has been made aware of this gift or been told about an alternative to sin. However, there are others who know of God and know God who have chosen to live without Him believing they can do this on their own. We live in a world that spotlights independence, doing it “my way.” This results in pride and deception which causes a false sense of security in self. It can, and may, take a crisis to bring them to their knees and realize they need God. Many turn to Him in a crisis then turn away from Him when it has been resolved. At this point they have brought into the enemies plan to have man elevate himself/herself above needing God, even seeing themselves as better than God. His job is to steal, kill, and destroy lives and when we try to live a life without God then we have validated the lies. Be Encouraged!
