Last draft I did I was 2-2, kept a lovely 4 spell 3 land hand, figuring I'll for sure at least get 3-2 to recoup some gems. Drew 8 lands in a row from the top.

Awesome pool, black/White removal is one of my favorite archetypes. As a side note Nummy, you've been on a total heater, and having some pretty nice curves and draws. But I've noticed you have been overly pessimistic lately about some of your pools and draws, and when thigs don't go your way. Just wanted to give you a little perspective because you have been doing great in these events!
@brianh58443 күн бұрын
I've noticed this as well, and it's interesting to note that the other main MTG content creator I watch (LSV) has also seemed more salty/pessimistic of late. I don't point this out to be critical of either Nummy or LSV, just something I've noticed and am curious about. Is it the nature of how magic has changed over time? Is the variance higher? Is it completely unrelated to Magic and maybe more just that people have been more stressed out in general as a result of all the worldly nonsense? Still love watching both of these dudes, just kind of an open inquiry for me.

With all the games I've played and watched in this format, it seems screw and flood is so much more prevalent than it has been in previous formats. Maybe it's the transition from Duskmourn to Foundations where there were rooms to sink mana into so the flood wasn't as punishing. If mtga came out and said their shuffler was broken for this format would you be surprised? I know 'That's Magic baby!', but it feels like I'm saying it every other game.

I think this makes blue especially good. It’s harder to flood out with think twice, and incidental looting. I have been prioritizing fitting in a bit more filtering, like for example with red, It’s not a great card, but I haven’t felt bad throwing in a thrill of possibilities to discard an extra land, get through some flood.

It's a regular part of Arena, and precisely why I keep it free to play and never give them my actual money. I cant imagine how tilting it would be with actual prizes on the line, or actual cash.

I think I like building W/B a little bit differently. I really like the 1 and 2 drops that have sacrifice synergy like rats and sage which I would almost never cut if I have 5+ cards that have sac synergy. Usually these decks don't have a problem using their mana and drawing cards, and getting a solid presence on the board early and being able to have a 1 mana exile removal spell on command is worth a lot. Rats in particular is a card that always overperforms for me and I generally don't like my opponent casting, especially if they things like gourmand to get value from the body. Even though traditionally value is king in sealed, I think the balance has tipped a bit more toward tempo being valuable in the last few years. A 1-2-3 curve backed up by interaction is just very hard to beat, so even if the 1-drops aren't quite as powerful and not the best topdecks I still find them worth a card. Savannah lions is a bit of an exception, but I will still play it if I have the cat lord or multiple felidar saviors, as a 3/2 is a LOT better than a 2/1 and having it out turn 1 just means you can run people over some of the time. It's not uncommon with these decks to go sage on 1, two drop on 2 (gourmand or ghoul perhaps), and then eaten alive (sac'ing sage) + another 2-drop on 3 to just run someone over. Then you have some late-game value loops with the reassembling skeleton to spend your mana and keep the flow going, and you just don't need to play that many 4's. That being said, flyers are great in this format (not as much reach as usual) so I can understand prioritizing those.
@thelifedragon21563 күн бұрын
that sounds like a solid build as well, though i dont think running a bunch of 1/1 for 1 and 2 is really a curve out and run em over type of deck. id say either go, full vaule gride em out with the sac fodder for go full aggro with the 2/1 lions and big flying four drops
@brianh58443 күн бұрын
@@thelifedragon2156 Well the way I look about it is it's more of an aggro-control thing. The hungry ghoul, gourmand, and chip shot damage (like the blood artist guy) are what make it feel "aggressive." It's just about getting out in front early and having ways of utilizing that board presence to get damage in while also dismantling your opponent's game plan. Also, while a 1/1 on turn 1 might not seem like much, the fact that it's facilitating a 1 mana exiling removal spell while also pinging for 1 each turn is what contributes to that overwhelming tempo advantage. When you get to spend your mana every turn, including on turn 1, you're just going to pull ahead of an opponent that's starting a turn later, assuming the cards have good power to mana cost ratios (which B/W's do).
@thelifedragon21563 күн бұрын
@@brianh5844 you just describing a good midrage deck. yes that's still a good build, im just saying that's not a curve out stompy deck. curve out stompy would be more like 1 mana 2/1, 2 mana 2/2 with some ability. 3mana 2/2 and 1/1 or anything really, 4 mana savor. 5 mana clawsout, win the game
@brianh58443 күн бұрын
@@thelifedragon2156 eh I dunno, I think there's more complexity here. People don't normally think of a deck with a glut at 1 and 2 as being "midrange." I get that it's not stompy, though, but I never said it was, I was just saying that I like going higher tempo over value in B/W by including more low drops. Call it what you will, the name isn't that important.
@thelifedragon21563 күн бұрын
@@brianh5844 im just saying i dont think your gonna overrun people with that build very often, maybe like 1 in 5 games. where thats kinda what temp aggro deck does almost evey game. more of mid range deck that can get fairly aggressive with the right draws. (like all midrage decks)
