One of my lifelines snapped a month ago when someone was stepping off the boat so I thought it best to replace them last Sunday Morning. When I finished, I invited three friends to join me for an afternoon sail with Skylie ll, Wahine, and me. The wind was light, but it was pleasantly relaxing Sunday, which was welcome, as the past few weeks have been high intensity working with sponsors and trying to sort out the certification issue for Wahine so I can take her out of Area One and Tokyo Bay and do some longer distances offshore. More of that in the next episode. For now, have a nice warm drink in hand and sit back and enjoy the Sunday Breeze. Thanks to Robin May for the Sunset Shot at the end of the day

I’ve noticed the older I get, I feel a sense satisfaction fixing even the simplest of things. Before I had to, now I want to. :) 👍👍

Not to be a pest Lowell , but one thing I learned as a cave diver/technical dive instructor - only the best gear should be considered when it comes to a life saving piece of equipment. I purchased some cheaper non-stretch line here in Okinawa just to have on the boat for various purposes (I have SS rails, so no cable lifelines) and within a few months, the line was already dissipating from the sun. The difference between $100 and $700 is not relevant, unless the material you have is of equal strength and durability. Otherwise, before leaving on your big trip, I would switch those lifelines out to dyneema or spectra lines regardless of cost. That said, you did a nice job on them.

Not a pest at all. I appreciate your perspective. Yep, upgrading to Dyneema is a possibility but I took the advice from one of my senior advisors who has done three passages ( Pacific) himself and he suggested double braid as it is the inner braid where the strength is and I can notice chafing and deterioration on the outer braid first and then check. Ultimately, money is not in infinite supply so one has to make choices and priorities. For now I am comfortable with the lifelines for now. thanks again for taking the time to comment. I am grateful

@@PacificSolo I agree with you about money and priorities. But that's where I put things comfort related in the back seat, and anything having to do with life safety on the front seat. My main exploration cave spool was about $350. I can buy one that looks the same for around $80, but if it jams up in a cave, it could result in a serious situation. Lifelines are exactly that. I know from experience that my expensive spool works every time. That said, you are seeking sound advice from knowledgable sailors who have been there, done that, and that is a good thing, and in the end, you make your own choices based on that sound advice.

Are you using a phone or a go pro?? If a go pro, get a head band and/or a chest harness, that way you can film and use your hands.

@@lowellsheppard ha..... well mate I hope your doing well, am looking forward to your journey. Just keep in mind, that in doing all the work in getting ready to go, that you actually go. You can do all the prep for years, but you need to untie the lines to leave. From what I've seen from others, it's that last step that can hold you back. Keep powering forward my friend.

Nice job. My only qualm is that you're placing full faith in those little welds at each end. There's no way to know how good those are until their breaking point is reached and the steel is not thick enough to remain a closed hook with one end broken. I think I'd like to see those fittings pass through the stanchion welded both sides, or something going round the stanchion, or another type of fitting used, or the line going round the stanchion and back to the tensioner. But then, I'm a fat bastard who would test any fitting to the max. Hope I haven't needlessly planted a seed of doubt but...

really grateful for your observation. Those little welds are where the original lifelines were attached and so i did not give it any thought. But you raise a good point. Doubt is good as it helps me address the risk. Thanks
