During evacuations you learn what the important things are. Houses can be rebuilt, but the picture of your grandparents wedding in 1928, the picture of your child's first day of school, legal documents/titles/insurance etc... are the important stuff. Glad your place is ok and that nobody was hurt too bad. Firefighters are ordinary people who do heroic deeds.

FYI…Board and batten was originally used for green wood. You left about 3/4” gap between boards then when you installed the green batten you nailed it in the gap. This way the boards could move and the nails didn’t get in the way of them drying.

I'm so glad you faired well with that fire so close to Spur and Moose. Liked your Tetris remark. Reminded me when building second floors on my concrete garage and my skidsteer shed. Both times people said I needed one more sheet of plywood. But ya gotta have stairs to go upstairs ya know. So the hole in the floor for the stairs was incorporated in the design, and I had a little plywood left over. Built a lot of things like that. Back to that pointy fire with all of those planes. Must have been a sight to watch them fill their bilges down at the lake, on the fly. And thank you for entertaining us again, and giving me some ideas of hiding a hidden door with the battens.

I've been to Okanogan County twice. The second time was to visit the 2 story log cabin my great-grandparents built up on a mountain in the Okanogan County. In fact, my great-grandmother was born the same year Okanogan became a County, and lived to be 100 on the County's 100 year celebration. The County actually paid for her Birthday cake. My mom and I got to be there to celebrate her Birthday with her. I'm glad your property was not damaged from the fire.

Okanagan is not the only wine region in Canada. There are numerous vineyards and wineries in the Niagara, Ontario Region as well. When you come to visit Niagara Falls, you can spend a week doing wine tastings here. Trust me. You will love it.

Firefighters are awesome A couple of years ago I was near Athens (Greece) when a similar smoke plume presented itselfafter a guy with his bee hive smoker gotcareless and torched the wholearea. The local firefighters wereable to get things undercontrol in about a day using two bombardier plabes and a helicopter scopingup about half aegean sea. The firefighters (about 100 of them) stuck around watching and guarding if any smolderingturnedinto afire again. Never felt that safe in my life...
