I am so with you guys and your message. Saying NO to these "traditional" gifts is important but I think, it is also time that the boys side also share in the financial cost of hosting a wedding and not just put the onus on the bride's side for the entire financial responsibility of a wedding. A request -- can you make a vide on this last point I made.

Yup u r absolutely right. We actually did share the cost of the wedding with both of us contributing becuz frankly I don't think it is fair to expect parents to bear all of it .

Even if the bride and groom be very well & equally educated, and even financially independent and even the groom's family is well off, yet shamelessly they ask for gifts and disguise the dowry as a part of rituals and customs. This is the change we want to see.

Super awesome. Our thinking is also same. We don't have parents. We all are in 30's only. Our parents left us so soon. But as a eldest daughter or sister I and my husband including my sister and her husband we took same decision for our younger brother marriage and we said & done same with bride family. They got so happy. They always say aapke parents nahi hai but aapse humko bahut kuch sikhne mila hai beta. We said only blessings we need nothing else uncleji and auntyji.
