When does that ever work? It's a feeling you can't shake, even the person going through it knows that their thoughts are irrational, but it doesn't help. Your body still responds and your heart feels like it's going to pump out of your chest. She is much more knowledgeable than you are. My dad is a psychiatrist and he does not go around diagnosing people and speaking about how their actions could have deeper meanings, if someone does not spefically ask for help in their life he is not just gonna shove his unwanted opinion in ppl's faces. I have social anxiety and I can’t imagine being on Dance Moms and being made fun of like that. It is not possible to speak when your anxiety level is that high. The moms and Abby should at least find it in their hearts to show a little bit of empathy. When you don’t know anything about why a kid is panicking, don’t be mean to him/her. I’ve been in situations like that where I would have panic attacks, but luckily every single person that happened with showed empathy, even if they didn’t understand. Hannah Banana, I know what you’re going through and I’m so incredibly proud. You are so strong and I know how hard it is, but you had the courage to do a tv show with it. That blows my mind, keep doing what you are doing and we will always have your back.

Honest, i have social anxiety as well and i, too, get a lot of panic attacks like Hannah did. When a teacher picks on me in class, i honestly cannot say a word..everyone laughs, but nobody actually understands what its like to be scared of people judging you or embarrassing yourself in front of a whole class LET ALONE millions of people watching a TV show you're on.

Emi :D exactly it must be nerve wracking. I was extremely shy as a child and had a stutter when I was really little. I was bullied a lot because of that and because of my shyness. I had to go into speech therapy for year. My parents did put me into theater, and luckily it did help bring me out of my shell. I absolutely adored my theater teachers and directors I work with, they really knew how to work with me. Poor Hannah obviously has an anxiety disorder and that is something that can not be simply turned off. She does need help with that and the fact that she is being filmed for millions to see is only adding on to it. So I think Abby should try to be a little more understanding and try a different approach with her.

dude I completely relate to Hannah when I was growing up I was petrified to speak when put on the spot I was always afraid that my answer wouldn't be good enough and I'd always get yelled at. Abby just needs to understand that kids aren't always wired the same way that she expects them to be that every kid is going to be confident and what they say and how they say it.Abby's the one in the wrong here she needs to get her act together and be more kind and considerate or she's going to keep losing dancers.

girlonlaptop is it really a requirement of dance to be able to talk? i feel like dance is a great hobby for somebody who has selective mutism because it’s a way of showing emotion through physical and facial expressions. why is it considered "babying" when we just want abby to treat hannah like a human? she clearly has a passion for dance. this reminds me a lot of chloe from the earlier seasons. she left the aldc because abby wouldn’t "baby" her and went to a new studio (it wasn’t shown on the show) and she improved so much! she’s really successful now and if she stayed with abby her whole life she’d be going nowhere. im sorry i just wrote an entire paragraph about this and i doubt anyone is reading this much, but one of my biggest pet peeves is ignorance toward people with issues mentally, especially when the issue is irrelevant like saying hannah can’t dance because she has selective mutism.

Hannah likely has social anxiety disorder. I recognize it because I do too, even though I didn't get diagnosed until my 20's. It's not Abby, it's just that when Hannah's put on the spot in a room full of people like that she panics and goes blank. It's the anxiety. I feel so bad for her 😭😭

I can’t tell you how many times my dance teacher has hugged us when we cry and stayed back in class to make sure we were comfortable in the environment. That’s how you teach a child and make sure they don’t quit.

I assure you if she gets asked this question at an audition and she bursts into tears in a room full of people no one will comfort her. She'll look ridiculous and lose the job. She needs to get some thicker skin or she's never going to go anywhere.. Tough love hurts but it works. Abby loves the kids and she wants them to learn the hard way because that is the most effective. Hannah's mother has done all the soft cuddly stuff and it's made her daughter as weak as water with social skills well below that of a 13 year old. Social anxiety. I’m sure Hannah uses dance as an outlet to be able to express feelings, words, and emotions that she cannot voice otherwise in her everyday life because of her introvert personality. And that’s okay. Not everyone is an extrovert. Yelling at her only compounds the anxiety she feels and makes it worse. She actually has a lot to say but is saying it through dance movement.

why can’t the moms use their brains and understand that hannah obviously has anxiety and has some issues speaking up, it’s not her fault and i’m sure if she could “just speak” she would. abby should realize this issue and not pin them on hannah, but move around them and focus on what she’s going to the studio for, DANCING not speaking i think everyone needs to give hannah some support and some patients, obviously she’s just trying to do the right thing and please everyone, nobody is perfect.
