Unfortunately, people these days have no regard for others, which is why speakers and such must be banned now. Also, there are many new cruisers who have no idea how to behave on a cruise. The next thing the cruise lines should do is ban the use of cell phones in the theater. They say you can't use a flash, and to be considerate of others, but I've often seen people holding their phones over their heads, blocking the view of the people behind them and distracting others in the theater. Theaters on land always tell you to put cell phones off.

OMG that is so irritating. I paid extra money for floor seats to a concert years ago only to have my view of the stage completely blocked by an inconsiderate lady who had her cell phone over her head recording the concert.

I recall going to a music concert (land based) sat towards the back of the theater when 3 ladies sat in front of me, all with smart cell phones, videoing the performance, dancing, taking selfies and generally ruining it for everybody around. At an opportune moment I grabbed one ladies phone and told her she can have it back at the end. Obviously there was a scene and the usher then intervened, moving the 3 ladies somewhere else. I would not recommend doing what I did but I did get thanked by all the audience around as these 3 would have continued with their terrible behavior to everybody else's detriment if they were not challenged.

Funny enough, you would think it would be kids/teenagers. But I've been trying to take public transportation lately to do my part, and every younger person either apologized, and turned it down/off, or lowered it themselves either when they were asked or noticed it. It seems to be , from what I saw, about 50 & up that were rude about it. My kids are between 15 and 30 and it would never even occur to them to not use earbuds or headphones. We did good with our kids( those of us who were teens in the late 80s, through 90's. They are certainly a lot more polite and aware of others feelings than we ever were. Y'all, we did it!😂❤ It seems like we actually raised people better than us.😁🥰

As a former Navigator with the US Navy, I know that baby monitors do not interfere with the navigation system. That system receives satellite signals from three or more satellites to pinpoint the ship's position. That is a line that all company's use to avoid confrontation with consumers.

@katharinabecker752 That general information is no secret. New parents can be "sensitive", maybe due to lack of sleep, sometimes being selfish and not realizing or having gotten used to a restriction on their freedom to do what they want...now that they have children. We had this illustrated just on a cruise we just took. We went out to eat and a bunch of adults with little kids along were already there in the back tables. One 1 yo little girl was too tired, hungry, or just didn't want to be there, so the whole restaurant could hear her cry loudly off and on. The adult parents didn't want to leave their adult friends, so instead of one parent sacrificing his or her social time with friends by taking the child back to their cabin to sleep, etc. ... they stayed. When the child literally was crying/screaming continuously and still kept her there without any regard for the other customers, one customer couldn't take it anymore and suggested the parents take the poor child up to their cabin (BIG mistake). Within 5 minutes of that happening, we saw the mother carrying the tired screaming child and running toward the lady who talked to them, with the husband quickly following and tried to prevent the mother from physically attacking the lady. In the meantime, the mom screamed at the lady, who did she think she was and didn't she know she was a "new mom" of a 1 yo (not very new if she had the kid a whole year, IMHO). Anyway, she only stopped screaming at the lady when she saw Security come in and quickly went back to her table. Within minutes, we saw the family being escorted out by the same Security officers. We saw the family out and about on the ship later. I'm guessing the people who work on the ships don't want the same interaction and possible physical fight that lady was close to encountering...over people neglecting their children via baby monitors. Unfortunately, people can be crazy, sadly.

When I wanted some downtime to relax, I’d bring my cell phone & AirPods Pro to listen to playlists of music I downloaded onto my phone. I’d go onto the Serenity deck (children not allowed on this deck on Carnival; e cruised on Sunshine). It was wonderful! I laid on a deck lounger with an ‘adult drink’ & my tunes. 😂😊 This trip was amazing! I’ll remember every bit of it. I know for certain that I’ll want to go again. Correct. This is not just on cruises. People think they can play their phones and ipods anywhere, like restaurants, movie theaters. etc. That is what headphones and earbuds are made for. @@jgesselbertywe were recently on a HAL cruise and the only obnoxious thing we experienced was a table near us in the dining room. They were obviously friends traveling together but they were unusually loud in their repeated laughter. Like, many other people turning to look loud. And it happened again and again. Then, one night, we heard singing. And not faint singing. It was like the table next to us had someone singing at their table. Turns out, one of them was sharing a video of some relative in a concert or performance. And that's all well and good. But seated dining isn't the time for that. And if one must do it then, play it quietly and briefly. This was not quiet and it went on for several minutes, along with their general boisterous behavior. And that might be de rigeur for a line like carnival but that is out of character for a line like HAL which skews towards an older crowd and not a "party" atmosphere. But I'm in my early 50s and these people were all significantly older than me which is to say: old enough to know better.

We utilize the serenity areas on the ship to relax during our cruises so we don't appreciate others that insist on sharing their music choices with everyone on the ship so YES BAN BOOMBOXES and require headphones to listen to music. As for walkie talkies, these items typically use UHF or VHF frequencies which means they are limited range and will NOT work within the ship due to all the metal. Another issue with these walkie talkies is that the users think that if they talk louder, or yell into the microphone the other person will hear them better, it doesn't work that way and they only manage to annoy other cruisers.

My last cruise for 14 days wanted almost $500 for high speed internet for the entire ceuise for a single device. It was even about $150 just for text only on social meadia per device. They cannot ban having your T-Mobile phone that will have texting worldwide starting this month, phone calls sometime next year and data from the starlink satellites in 2026. Amateur Radio Operator speaking here on the issue with the two-way radios. Those radios might be used in the U.S. on the FCC approved frequencies, but once you get into international waters or ports, their radio rules are probably different. As a licensed person, I can take a radio internationally, but I have to follow the rules of that nation which includes me getting the correct permissions from the nation to operate in their territory and only operate on the assigned frequencies. Plus, if you happen to be in a public space on a cruise ship, it can be rather annoying to hear radio conversations when you are sitting on pool deck (think of those annoying people who always seem to have their cell phone on speaker). It makes perfect sense to not allow consumer two-way radios onboard.

Funny surge-protected power strip story. I was on a business trip to France. I brought a power strip and a plug adapter. The only thing we might use were laptops, which accepted 240V power, so this allowed multiple people to share the plug adaptor, as some people forget to bring them. I didn't think about the surge protection seeing 240V as a surge, but the surge protector gave its life trying to shunt that surge to neutral. Unfortunately, it also tripped the breaker powering the outlet. Whether cruise lines have 240V outlets for their European guests, I'm not sure, but someone following in my footsteps could have been the cause of this ban. Actually, I bring 3 six-foot cords for that reason (OK, it's only eighteen feet, but that's always been enough). That makes more sense for me, since it's rare that I need anything that long and I don't want a cord all other the floor (in a land based hotel room or in a cabin on a ship).

I brought a 20’ extension cord on our cruise last June (HAL). Both people in my cabin use CPAPs, and the nearest outlet was across the room. We unplugged it every day and tucked it under the bed. Bit of an annoyance, but absolutely necessary. There were no outlets (or even USB ports) near/around the bed.

@ Thanks! I know they do usually offer the extension cord, but I’ve also heard they can run out. We didn’t have a problem bringing it on HAL. I also know they offer distilled water too, which is amazing. Our steward actually asked if we wanted any when he saw we had CPAPs, which was kind of him. However, we both use the Resmed Air Mini, which doesn’t need any water. They are also nice and small, so great for travelling. After our recent cruise on Royal Caribbean’s icon of the sea seas, I would say that they need to ban those little rubber ducks. The people are bringing on board by the thousands for scavenger hunt that last during the whole cruise. Kids running up and down the halls, looking for rubber, ducks, tearing places apart Ripping Central Park to shreds, practically moving lights, moving foliage stepping into the plants it was like carnival cruise line on crack super disappointing. children should also be banned from the aqua Dome. it has two bars, beautiful seating along the ocean front under a covered dome and then these large elevated pods so that you can view the sky. These were full of teenagers every minute of the day and children and the children were running around the Aquadome like it was their own personal playground. we couldn’t understand it when they have a whole deck of game room and merry-go-round and their own waterpark and all those slides and everything is geared to kids, so why were they allowed to be where there are two bars and cause mayhem it’s something that Royal Caribbean really needs to address: even the allure of the seas was not this disruptive. As they ban more and more things as opposed to just enforcing the rules, people are going to just stop cruising. Who wants to see it start taking hours to get through security because they want to go through everything in your carry on?? There are a lot of things that look like speakers, including the power packs they recommend in place of power strips. What used to be a simple scan through the x-ray is going to become a long and arduous experience. I have always taken my speaker, I used it in my cabin at reasonable levels and that's what the rules said. People that were using them outside their cabins should have been instructed that that was not permitted and told to turn them off. Now, every time a certain group violates the rules, we all have to be concerned with a ban.. I'm sure as people become less respectful in this world, more bans are going to happen..

Yes, the staterooms have a phone, but in most cases, people aren't spending too much time in them, so having a walkie-talkie per couple made it easier to meet up. They were an older couple, not super tech savvy so texting wasn't really an option. We didn't abuse the use of the walkie-talkies, so it wasn't an issue for us at that time. I hate traveling anywhere, by air, land or sea, with my CPAP. It's big, heavy and a nuisance with all the parts, face mask, hose, cords, etc., plus you have to bring distilled water for it. I just don't take it anymore and my pulmonologist said it's unlikely to kill me to skip it for a week or two. I don't drink alcohol so the risk of falling too deep asleep is less too. Besides that, my hubby will wake me if I snore because he's a light sleeper who wakes at every noise in the halls or other rooms.

Disney prohibits anything with additional outlets. Only usb charging ports. Also DCL allows each adult over 21 to bring either 2 bottles of wine or six beers when embarking and at each port. @@stephenhope7319 It’s been tricky a few times, with 2 CPAPs though. The cabin steward brought very short cord so we asked about the lamp. He was surprised we had an adapter, but we still had to use a short power strip to plug both CPAPs in. Not all lamps are plugged in so that they can be unplugged either. We normally carry the adapter that fits the 220v outlets that are similar to the desk ones. We were looking at staying in Brazil before our next cruise what a nightmare that is! Some as reportedly 220 others 110 with no marking as to what they are. For a CPAP it doesn’t matter, but it would be nice to know without carrying a volt meter. Supposedly that’s being fixed in major cities but I’ve forgotten which way they are going.

@@Reed-2bigI took a 20’ extension cord on HAL last June. Two CPAPs, and the closest plug was at least 10 feet away from my bed. The lights next to our beds were sconces that had the wiring behind the wall. @Reed-2big
@Reed-2big 12 күн бұрын
@ When I asked NCL to supply a cord, they told me to bring my own, you should be good with your own cord. On the epic I don’t recall a plug being nearby, but there have been a few cruises since then. As for the lamp on RCL being plugged in that was a shock to us after attaining Diamond and a bit more, it was the first time I’d see even what looked like table lamps actually have plug accesses. We also carry an adapter for the 220v outlet. Our short power strip is also European. And since our travel cord is essentially a yellow (it’s green) round cord we don’t worry about the load on the wires. Wishing you success as refurbishing start to include more and more bedside access, just not always US 110 outlets 😇

@@Reed-2big I bought a USB charger with a built in European plug so we could make use of the EU outlet. Used that to charge our devices, and the US outlet for the CPAPs (extension cord). I certainly hope they put in more USB charging ports in these newer ships being built.
@Reed-2big
@Reed-2big 11 күн бұрын
@ There are often at least 2 220v outlets, not always 2 110v. The adapters are pretty cheap I think around $12 now for 3. The ones I bought had the ability to plug in an additional plug. Since I still have some of the old Amazon chargers and devices that don’t need more than that I end up with an additional usb outlet. But yes I have a usb charger with multiple usb slots too. I’ve noticed on some lines there are a couple of usb ports, but they don’t always work! They are in the bottom of th sconce lamps. We often stay before a cruise so the extra adapters help although Italy requires a different one😇 Of all our gear I think my electric toothbrush is the only device that won’t run on 220, so we’re just careful to be sure it’s charged! Well, actually, the curling iron won’t either. For what it is worth, I also have an electric mobility device so there is a need to plug in three devices before charging anything else!

Vapes should definitely be banned, and here's why. I was working at an airline ticket counter, and one counter down, a man had one in his pocket. He dropped it, and it made a sound like a firearm, and there was a MAJOR flashpoint. After it hit the floor, it burned a hole in the carpet, down to the concrete. Imagine what would happen on a cruise ship.

Not sure if anyone has commented on this but you mentioned Walkie Talkies, The reason most cruise lines ban the use of these are not really much of annoyance but mostly because the frequencies used by these such as MURS, GMRS or FRS can also be used in other countries for Police, Fire or Military. We sail on Carnival frequently and only seen a couple of instances where someone was using an FRS radio in which security warned them not to use. From the last time I checked Carnivals rules, only Ham radio was allowed. When we sail I always bring my Ham radio and was told by the captains staff that it can be used only in International waters or in US ports due to Amateur Radio laws in other countries. When we first board and get our room I reach out to the Captians staff or the Captain and advise them I want to use my ham radio and most of the time they will direct me to a part of the ship to conduct my Ham Radio operations. The last cruise was on the Carnival Panorama where I was directed to the deck right above the bridge. This was chosen by the captain because it is away from passengers and it allowed us to operate without being disturbed by anyone else as well as passenger safety. We are very thankful for Carnival for letting us have our radios and lastly when we talked with the Captain he said that they like the fact we have the ham radio because it can be used as a last resort if all communication radios on board the ship have been lost.
