I remember this song so strongly from when I was a teenager. Last month, my father was diagnosed with cancer and I drove the two days to care for him. Out of nowhere this song surfaced to remind me of my wife and home. Thank you for the song; music never dies.

It’s weird how music does that! Takes you back to a place. I remembered it randomly from when my mom and Dad used to watch it.

I’m watching this in 2021. I first saw this on video around 1997. My mum and grandmother wanted to watch it with me. I had absolutely no interest in watching “a bunch of people dance about”. It still stands to this day, as one of the greatest things I’ve ever saw with my own eyes. And this song. This song... 24 years later and my head and heart still melt upon hearing it.

Listening to this song i always feel here beside me the friend that made me meet this wonderful song and the whole show. He died in 2006, in South Africa. I was living in India that time...i was on the field when i received a message from a common friend saying that he had passed away. After the initial shock, i started singing this song thinking of Him. I Always, when i play it, i feel him here.

I am such a fan of Riverdance and I have seen a few versions now finding the 10th anniversary here on youtube. Lift the wings is my favorite song, especially this version, it gets into my soul and stirs my Irish blood, such beautiful singers and now to have my six year old to share it with me it is magic!

Lyrics: How can the small flowers grow If the wild winds blow And the cold snow is all around Where will the frail birds fly If their homes on high Have been torn down to the ground Lift the wings That carry me away from here and Fill the sail That breaks the line to home But when I'm miles and miles apart from you I'm beside you when I think of you - a Stóirín, a Grá How can tree stand tall If a rain won't fall To wash its branches down How can the heart survive Can it stay alive If its love's denied for too long Lift the wings That carry me away from here and Fill the sail That breaks the line to home But when I'm miles and miles apart from you I'm beside you when I think of you - a Stóirín, a Grá And I'm with you as I dream of you - a Stóirín And a song will bring you near to me -
