Such a great idea... multifunction. working smart in Missouri! Most of my splitting is done alone and i considered your lift table design. I ended up looking into the Gorillabac 3803 log lift that drags the wood to my splitter, lifts it and holds it when splitting. Got one and would never go to anything else. Really lets me get wood up that I could not do before. The prime big wood and gnarly stuff that doesnt roll is easy to get and split. It fits on my old Dirty Hands 20ton and sons County Line 34 ton looks like it will fit most any horizontal vertical splitters. Really affordable and easy to install. Plus Made in the USA too.

@danrolfe1436 ..and the young guys should consider using stuff like this so their backs still work when they are old!

That’s really cool. I would also weld a trailer hitch receiver to the underside of my trailer to lift the bigger ones into it as well. Might be slower than lifting, but well worth saving your back.
@FirewoodInTheField5 ай бұрын
@robertstein4781 That's a great idea and something I also want to do! My trailer is to low to use the hitch adapter, but a straight piece of square tubing should do the trick! I'd also like to install a 12V outlet somewhere on the back of the truck to not have to being a battery with me
@ZackNyoutube6 ай бұрын
I've always wondered why others haven't done this or atleast keep a splitting maul handy to help make the lifting easier. Scheib was the first one that came to mind. It may be slower but you can lift them all day with that hoist!
@FirewoodInTheField6 ай бұрын
@Tryingtomakeitthroughit I've seen where people take a truck crane with a hydralic jack and mount a electric hoist to it. But I really like how this one is not permanently mounted to the truck. One of these days I want to fabricate a mount so I can also use this on my trailer!

Great idea although I’m not sure why it would not use log tongs to grab the logs instead of the screw device.
@FirewoodInTheField4 ай бұрын
It's not tall enough, at least not for the tongs I have. The next time I use it, I'll get some footage trying my tongs. I'll also look for a shorter set of tongs too. Thanks for watching!

Need a longer jib and on a 45 degree for more reach and hight the winch moved to the other side and a couple more pulleys or shives

Looks just like a heavy duty deer lift thru Walmart i was eyeballing for hunting fire wood etc. First thing id do is get a short handle log clamp and ditch that screw in gizmo.
@FirewoodInTheField5 ай бұрын
@jimmieburleigh9549 I've tried my log-tongs, but they are so long I can't get the rounds high enough to get on the truck (unless it's small rounds. But then I don't need this crane at all) Good ides though. I'll look for a shorter set of tongs that can still open wide enough for large rpunds
@jimmieburleigh95495 ай бұрын
@@FirewoodInTheField that or add a foot or 2 extension to the tower. I added on to my buddy's deer lift. His had the hand winch but same basic design

well i guess it's an option. My back just turned 75 so it's pretty much played out. I normally would roll one round to the tailgate & use it as a stand. lift it up to that point and that get another grip. sometimes I'll make like steps put down one & then have two stacked up and sort of walk them up the steps. Also a lot of times I'll bring a maul & split one. It gets a lot lighter & much easier to grip. But if I was able to get a lot of these rounds I might invest in this set up. It could be used for other applications I would imagine. Also I would tweak it a bit, maybe a heavier handle, use a cordless impact, take some of that cable off and probably put a plug setup instead of carrying a battery. don't forget once you're done you need to save room to put your gear back in the truck. but I can see one of these in the near future, thanks for sharing. I will say it's a bit pricy
@FirewoodInTheField6 ай бұрын
@carlotodaro5052 all good points! I bring this to/from the job site in the back seat floorboard of my cab, so no worries about it being in the back of the truck. Yes--- it can also mount to most any "standard " box-store-brand log splitter. It's a little pricy, but since it can be either on my splitter or on my truck I was willing to pay for it
@DonaldRak-ku6bi5 ай бұрын
I will agree 👍 it's really nice "Nut" Saver since my balls cost me 30k with twin hernias Not saying I'm picking up logs over 90 lbs but I learned really fast, But this fella got good tool going And please try not put weight on tail gates like that the cables only hold maybe 150# So don't push them too limits if that log falls after unhooked he eat the log on his feet So make sure you swing it to truck bed "please" trust me I had cables break and they put rest pressure on other one, So Go safe Men and Lady's out there loading please use Back belt if possible

But w each piece the tailgate gets lower😅😅 Tongs instead of the wheel thingy? Guess i can see where length may be a problem
@FirewoodInTheField6 ай бұрын
@brandonhoad9033 it doesn't have enough height for tongs, the top of the crane isn't high enough to have room for tongs in-betwee the hook and log and still get the log onto the truck. I may have been misleading. The tailgate does not get lower, more weight on the bed of the truck ends up putting more and more weight on the jack. It's a good idea to release the pressure on that jack. It can end up taking more weight than what's on the rear tires (could break jack or cause other safety issue)
@brandonhoad90336 ай бұрын
@@FirewoodInTheField you were clear. Me being smart ass. Each piece compresses the springs a little making it lower.
