I saw an astrophotographer from South Korea who still makes do with deep space stuff even at Bortle 6 or higher skies. It was a pretty cool watch. Definitely makes things harder, but we just gotta make do with where we are. Great video to show what can be achieved even in less than ideal locations. That’s the same approach I do in HK, just face away to the sea. Beautiful shots.

Thanks for your comment Keith. I often wonder about deep space astro, and wonder if light pollution might be less of an issue there. I presume probably wrongly the ratio of space to atmosphere tips in your favour.

Great video, and I particularly liked the Orion-bokeh shells shot! Light pollution obviously makes things harder but there’s still stuff that can be done. Shooting out to sea is always a big ✅ but I’ve even managed to get the Milky Way core rising above Cambridge city centre before, albeit not the prettiest of images, “ETTR” techniques and lots and lots of stacking!

Thank you Paul, it’s surprising what you can get away with, I think with light pollution half the problem is how much moisture is in the air. I was attempting a shot over Portsmouth the other night, there was so much moisture in the air, it seemed to make the light pollution worse, like the light was bouncing around in the moisture and spreading it further and making it hard to see through.

Beachy Head is an awesome spot. Only problem is, there's police and "suicide patrols" every half an hour ruining your exposures with their torches, to check if you're not a jumper. Which is a great thing in general, just not for astro photography.

Yes I go to beachy head a lot, but I usually walk out to the lighthouse at low tide. Nobody will disturb you out there Thanks for watching and commenting.

Of course it is! You just have to travel farther away from main cities and of course shoot during dry season. 😊
