Another good fire starter is pumice stone that has been stored in a jar full of diesel fuel, remove from the jar and you have a re-usable fire starter.

Please do not tell people that fire pits can be used during a fire ban, they absolutely cannot. They are classified as a brazier as they are open. Only a fully self-contained stove with spark arrestor etc is allowed to be used during a ban and in National Parks like on Fraser Island. This is the exact wording from Parks "A fully-enclosed cooking or heating appliance-not a brazier-can be used at all camping areas unless a fire prohibition or total fire ban is in place."

You are correct! And I am mentioning that the briquettes can often be used, provided they are 200mm off the ground and contained, unless there is a total fire ban. They are classed as a solid fuel.
