Circline adapters seem like a good idea for table lamps because they produce more light downwards, and can be used to light a desk.

I had a few circline adapters a while back (probably still have them). Two of them were pre-heat (phillips brand), and one is an LOA, which is electronic. Sadly, the arms that hold the lamps on them are all broken. I do still have a really cool vintage one that is all metal and is basically a whole circline fixture which screws into a socket.

15:45 I have one of those Philips bulbs, the 15 watt size. The date code on mine, 5K, decodes to October 1995. Used it for years back in the early 2000s but it's back in storage now.

I have two circline adapter lamps in use, and I would definitely recommend sticking with the kitchen & bath bulbs. The cool white circline bulbs have a rather low color rendering index and you can definitely see its effect.

I find it odd that some of more specialty-type fluorescent lamp sizes such as circlines, F4 thru F13T5s, and HO lamps are rarely seen in anything other than the crappy low-CRI halophosphate phosphors. It would be so easy to produce triphosphor versions of these lamps, yet they are so uncommon to find…if low demand is the issue, the lighting manufacturers could even discontinue the halophosphate versions of these lamps and produce only triphosphor models. I’m sure a lot of people would rather have a higher quality of light than keep the halophosphate lamps around. Yet so far, triphosphor and even 700-series versions of these lamps are either rare or nonexistent, save for a few like the Kitchen and Bath circlines, which are pretty common.

On the PL adapter, the “USA” code indicates that the lamp uses a GX23 base instead of a G24D1 base used on other quad tube 13w PL lamps that require different ballasts.

There were some of the Philips Marathon CFLs that were dimmable on an incandescent dimmer. However, they didn’t dim all that well, but cool nonetheless.

If I had to hazard a guess about that one light bulb box stating USA on it I'd wonder if maybe that's stating the target market for the bulb?

Yes! I converted it a couple of years ago, meant to make a video, and never did. I used it a lot in the old apartment, but I don't have a place for it here, so it will probably just go into storage.

Nah, I don't find them as interesting as the Trimline. I do have a couple of large 1A2 phones, however.

I have been using a number of 22w T9 preheat circline fluorescent adapters in my college dorm in modern bare bulb table lamps and bare bulb floor lamps. It is also good to note that the 9 inch 30w T9 circline lamps are still readily available in North America and it is also good to know that Japan has 28w circline lamps that are electrically and mechanically interchangeable with our 9 inch 30w circline lamps.
