Hey there! This is so freaking awesome! I'm a DJ and I'm looking to drop some startup capital bucks into some fixtures and tresses to be able to do shows like this. I'm looking for information about the industry beyond the guys who use Chauvet 350s for everything. Is there a forum or any central base of knowledge on the internet that I can go to to learn about professional DMX/concert lighting and things like that? Super awesome stuff, thanks for the video and I'm looking forward to your reply!

+gogonimago download the onPc versions of various dmx consoles. Play around with them to get a good understanding then be able to choose one that you can use in the real world and then go from there. I personally use GMA2 and it is a favorite of many, but not necessarily the easiest to learn.

@volumelux253

Sharpies are fast! Aswell as the mac 101, mythos and quantum washes. However the speed of the movement doesnt need to match. It's all about the dynamic intensity.

Hey! Great video, love your content. I just have a quick question; at around 3:18 it looked like a few lasers were pointing into the audience without scanning quickly. How did you plan this from a safety point of view? Was it simply that the power was beneath the MRE at that distance? Thanks in advance for any answer! :)
@volumelux253
@volumelux253 8 жыл бұрын
Good question. And i have a good answer aswell. The laser bursts you see are special built to be able to throw low powered beams in the audience. It's following all regulations. Laserimage was behind the lasers at this event. One of the biggest laser providers in Scandinavia.

Polaris, X-Laser and Pangolin collaboration to create it. Search for laser audience scanning on youtube.
@isettech
@isettech 5 жыл бұрын
The short answer is power density. A sharp laser projector is able to put a small diameter beam of high intensity through the pupil of an eye causing severer damage. Audience scanning lasers have beam expanders so the beams are larger in diameter at the same power so when they hit an eye, the beam power density is lower. It is the same effect of direct sunlight on a newspaper vs the same light concentrated with a 2 inch magnifying glass. This is in reverse. At distance a 1 or two inch beam still views as a small beam in air effects, but can not cause as much damage. Simply doubling a beam diameter spreads the beam 2X horizontal and 2X vertical so the power density is now 1/4 the power. Take a 1mm laser beam and expand it to 10mm drops the density to 1/100th the power while looking the same in the air at distance from the stage. A 1 watt beam then has the energy density of 10mW. Expand to 100mm and the effect is very impressive in the air as the beam actually hits more haze in the air. Not sure what power and beam diameters were used for the show, but this is part of the laser entertainment safety requirements and why a variance is required to license the lasers for the show. You can't just buy a laser show projector and scan unlicensed at a venue. For static displays google fat beam lasers. Many low power lasers used for on stage virtual harps etc are 5mm expanded beam lasers.

Were the Pyrotechnics and flamethrowers also controlled by DMX? Just asking because it is generally said that DMX is not a good protocol for that. I know it freaks out if it gets disconnected and "touched", but is that enough to prevent people from using it?
@FSXFaulder

DMX is often used for pyro, but it's common to have a dead man's switch alongside
@volumelux253
@volumelux253 8 жыл бұрын
Pyrotechnics you need a certified pyro technician controlling the pyro and a spotter on stage who has a kill switch if anything were to be in the flame area. This is pro grade and is not controlled via DMX. They have a special system and wireless control solution for this kind of setups.

So I pride myself on being able to match a DJ beat for beat even if he is cutting and scratching (ZTrip's manager just looked at me and said- how the hell are you doing that?!?! lol). So I do know this is possible. But if it isn't coded you had to have the set list at least. There is too much variety in the looks for this to be completely freestyled. Not that hardstyle is the most varied music on the planet (and mind you- I'm not accusing you,of anything I am actually inquiring. There aren't a lot of people that can freestyle a DJ well (which is why club lightjocks get shit for respect from the rock guys even though I toured for 15 years before I settled into a house). But I ran for HeadHunterz and a number of other hardstyle artists for Insomniac at my venue in LA and though my timing is for 99% of it is impeccable, there is always a misstep somewhere and I don't see any here. Granted it could have happened at 5m59s after the video. But if this is indeed freestyle I want to know how you did it because it took me about 10 years of developing a style of programming that I can do what I do and I always want to learn from others if It can add to my technique.

This is a super interesting read. I really respect your experience and your thoughts. And i'm honest when i say that the video is a bit edited to show some good parts, the whole set was a hour and i did not wan't to upload an hour to youtube. I'm not perfect at all. I make a ton of mistakes. And when looking back at this, i have surley developed over the last year. I no longer press hits and strobes like crazy trying to get lucky. The past year i've learned to analyse the music more. Everything in this video was done live without setlist. Alot thanks to a good showfile i've used and perfected over the years, and still working on as my style progresses. I have another video here wehere i uploaded a whole 40min video. Im sure you can spot my human mistakes. Let me know what you think about that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX2lqWp8mdCUkKs
