It's really swell that somebody made this film, as Geoff has a unique understanding of his era of Cinematography; besides being a real character, as if that's not part of the job! A lot of shows like this bill themselves to be "Masterclass" but this one is for real. I was fortunate enough to know him a bit, and seeing him in this context really burnishes his memory.

Using f/stops for ratio setting is OK but what about using foot candles for a more accurate lighting ratio measurement w/o needing to set an ISO & shutter speed? This foot candle technique seems to have fallen out of favor....

The difference between measuring for foot candles and f stops (when your light meter is set to thirds) is imperceptible to the naked eye and redundant when something moves more than a few cm. Using f stops is significantly better because you can change the iso and the light meter will account for it. Not to mention it’s quicker to know when your key is where it needs to be and then measure the ratios to it. Foot Candles is only really useful when measuring total brightness of a light and natural light of a space when on a recce.

The whole session was great ! Thank you for the people who are responsible for making this happen. The end of the session when he talked about the loss of zeal in young ppl is something imp and he stood as an inspiration. It’s never late to start. Thank you Geoff. A small request, if you decide to put it on any public platform please let us see what you are able to on the live class as there were shots we missed as someone was in front of camera as such.

0:16 seconds into the video is a shot of the students of the class, and one of them feeling BEING ON HIS PHONE is more important that the opportunity he has to be in the presence of this man. The young generation loves to interact with people....just not the ones they are with. They need to be somewhere far enough that an electronic communication device is needed. Someone who is in the same room? Apparently, "no thank you." This is why so many of this young generation have so little interpersonal skills.
