People talk a lot about the line, "There are no heroes left in Man." but I feel the beginning is much more powerful. "Tell me now! Is there a Man among you here, Is there no one who will stand up and try to fight?" "Tell me, Man! Is there not one in all your ranks? Is there no one who values Courage, over life?" Protoman is begging for any of the crowd to stand up for themselves. I see it as the implication that if even one person put themselves forward, he'd turn around and fight Wily's forces tooth and nail(or bolt and screw, as it were)

@@pseudogenesis I always interpreted it as his Breakman mask. I figured he was wearing it during Vengeance and took it off when he said "What vengeance means" to talk to Megaman, and then he puts it back on at the end of this song because hes no longer the man who wore that face. Then he wears it all throughout Sons of Fate until it falls off when he dies, at which point Megaman slowly puts it on as he comes to his realization. However, I think your interpretation is equally valid.
@DrTofu834 жыл бұрын
@@baval5 Both interpretations are correct. It can also be that Protoman dons the Breakman mask when he feels less the robot he used to be and more Wily's pawn. When he tells his story to his younger brother and cautions him against humanity, he's Protoman taking pity on Megaman and feeling he's going to be broken by loneliness and despair as he was, when he's done and Megaman is still willing to fight, he dons back the Breakman disguise, as Protoman is no more there, and Megaman is no more his brother but an enemy. When Megaman kills him, Breakman returns Protoman for a final time, and Megaman returns to be his grieving brother. So Megaman becomes the "new" Breakman, but instead of breaking others he lets his own heart shattered beyond repair until he can't feel anything anymore

One thing I love about this song is how the distortion varies in Protoman's voice. The distortion tends to be an indicator of how evil the speaker's intentions are (of maybe how disillusioned they are. It's debatable). And for the most part, Protoman's voice has some level of distortion. But it's highest when he's badmouthing man, saying they're all cowards. And it's almost entirely gone we asks "is there not one among you who will try to fight?". In that moment, he's not a soldier of Wily, or a man bitter at being abandoned by those he tried to save. He's just a man genuinely hoping someone will stand up, pleading with the crowd to follow the example he and his brother have set. It really adds to the message of this song. Protoman's goal wasn't vengeance. At least not completely. He wanted to force mankind to stand up for themselves. I don't think what he's done is *right*, but it's understandable.

So it begins! No matter which one of us lives, the ground we're standing on will crack and blow away. And you will fight. But when you fight, you'll fight alone. And in the end you'll see there was no other way. I've been here before. I've stood where you stand. They called me their hero, The Hero of Man. ***** Rock music is characterized specifically by being relatively fast and punchy with electric guitars. Metal is to rock as the rapier is to the sword, or as crack is to cocaine. It is the refined, concentrated, most powerful version of the genre. When I listen back to back between Iron Maiden, and say, Rush, while one is rock and one is metal, it's the same itch getting scratched. The same can't be said for any of the other equivalents you drew, and if you were to find and equivalent where it did indeed scratch the same itch, I would feel the same applies.

On the morning of the 15th, I had just gotten off the train coming home from work and I noticed there was a huge crowd on the Train Platform - something very unusual for my small town. While I squeezing through the crowd, I was listening to this song - in particular the speech by Protoman about if there was anyone who valued courage over life would stand up. I silently sung along thinking that this band was right. There are no Heroes left in Man. That morning was mere hours away from the Boston Marathon Bombing. That crowd waiting for the train was going to Boston for the Marathon. I wonder if there was meaning in that moment.

I resonate a lot with Protoman and his resentment due to my autism. People have a lot of preconceptions about autistic people. Some assume we're all savants in hiding, and put unrealistic pressure on us to outweigh our perceived detriment to society. Others still treat me as sub-human, second class, or straight up alien. I have deep rooted trust issues, I have doubts as to the lasting power of society, and I have constantly had my child-like naiveté abused by by a society that promotes exploitation and predatory behaviours. Much like how Protoman never wanted his energy core fixing, for fear it eould change him, I don't want to be "cured", and I'm tired of being treated like I have leprosy. Nobody accepted Protoman as he was, not Light, nor Wily, or anyone else.

in the animatics i saw him meet lights eyes same with the descriptive one I think hes also telling this to Light who in his own way did fight wily, and has paid dearly for it, that they have done all they should have to do to fight

Even Light wasn't willing to fight by the end of Act I. He explicitly told Megman not to fight, and that he couldn't win.

I could be off base, but I think it's the same thing Obi-Wan told Luke in Star Wars. Protoman was defeated and the hero that he was died, and he became everything he fought against.

Is there not one among your ranks who values courage over life?
@StarFoxHeroSJ11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was what happened. It is in the lyrics for Funeral for a Son. It does mention that Doctor Light was about to explain the truth about Protoman to Megaman.

Mankind doesn't seem to want to live until around 23XX judging by how long it takes for any sort of human resistance to appear in the actual games. Depending on what happens in the mysterious gap between classic Megaman and Megaman X, it seems kind of miraculous that they were able to survive that long even with the passive "help" of robots and reploids. Keep the fires burning.

This has to be the most intense man vs man rock opera to ever exist (Underlined by man vs society).

Both Wily and Light are robotics geniuses, so it would make sense that Wily just took the scrap heap that used to be Protoman and rebuilt him.

@TheKayasumaRaider This is 12 years after Joe, thus him saying "There are no heroes LEFT in man" he's saying that there aren't any heroes anymore, not there werent ever.

rumor has it that the reason rockman(aka megaman) stepped forward to help because he was a mining robot, and he came across the remains of the dead miners who slaved away in the same job he was built to do, and it made something tick in his AI, that gave him reason to fight for them.

I always imagine this is X vs Zeros final fight. X due to failing killing Sigma is consumed by the virus he fought hard against. A monster can Zero the last hope for humanity Having to end his suffering and save what’s left of the world that rejects them. There are no hero’s left in Man.

@theartofapodyopsis You never know. Years upon years pass between the death(s) of Protoman and Joe. What's not to say that Light was building a son to fight Wily, only to realize that his other son was resurrected and disillusioned?
