Nice video. Presets can also be of great help to create repeatable combinations of parameters and they can be added as buttons to the live view as well

For example when you create house lights preset make sure you aren't saving front wash in the same preset otherwise you will end up changing fixtures you don't want changed. Cheers

Great Video! Is there a nice workflow for adding the buttons u made for new fixtures. So e.g. if i buy some more fixtures of the exact same type, do i Need to assign every Single one to the buttons or is there another way to do it?

I would imagine that you could select all the lights design your color pallets. Copy and paste however many banks of fixtures you want control over. Then modify the parameters to exclude fixtures that you don’t want included. Not sure that I’m explaining the way to do that very well, but that’s my guess I’m the best way to do it.

I found this video very helpful and I can finally use light key but how do I assign each light to a specific dmx channel i need some help on that one 🙏🏼🙏🏼

That would come down to the fixtures you are using. Each one will have what is called a “channel mode” so for example if it is an RGB Par light it may have a 4 channel or 6 channel mode. 4 channel mode would give you control of intensity, red, green and blue for example. 6 channel mode might give you intensity, red, green, blue, and two strobe settings. Let’s say you have two lights in 4 channel mode the first would start on address 1 and the 2nd fixture address 5. Let me know if that is helpful. If you need more information I’m happy to help you out if I can. I should make another video that covers the basics of DMX setup and some more basic programming. If that’s something you would be interested in let me know and I may work on a video about that.

Great video! For moving heads, what brand or line do you recommend for easy lightkey setup?

Anything that has an already built fixture profile. I got some cheap moving lights off Amazon when I got started that didn’t have a profile and it was a pain. Now I have Chauvet equipment, my hazer, dimmer pack, and moving fixtures are all from them.

I'm coming at Lightkey from the context of wanting to use it with Ableton. My question is: can these preset buttons you created here be assigned as MIDI triggers? If so, this is a better option than what I'm currently using.

I know you can set up MIDI triggers with this. I believe you’d be better off using cue lists for that but you could probably assign it to the buttons. The busking style that I’m showing here wouldn’t be the best way to set up your showfile for midi.

I use midi notes to trigger presets (scenes) for each song and that works great. It is going to be much simpler to trigger a preset after you get everything the way you want, save to a new preset and trigger, with a single midi note rather than a bunch of midi notes for all the parameters.

You would need a MIDI interface set up between this and whatever software you’re using to control video. If that’s what you’re asking about that is. You’d basically write a MIDI cue that starts the video content.

Can you copy paste rather than start from Scratch each time ?

You can copy and paste things in LightKey but you’d need to go in and alter the AdHoc properties of each button or cue list. What are you trying to do?

Was just wondering if the repeated processes could be cut and paste then edit the property ie change 0/25/50/75 I would love to see a video on time based properties ( ie matching strobe timing) Been using light key for a couple of years and love it. I do dnb lighting for my son I use two notation launch pads Also love to see a video on calibrating movers Great video by the way 👍👍

@@askdad3450 I’ve got a few Chauvet Intimidator Spot 260s that I could rig up sometime and do some videos on that. I may make a video about some DMX basics for people getting started building their own kit. Glad you liked the video! LightKey is by far my favorite non-console way to program lights. Best bang for your buck hands down. Still a few headaches they need to iron out.
