Almost every Mach 2 jet from that era could do that. The lightning is ridiculously overhyped. It has a worst t/w than the fgr2 and equal/slightly worse wing loading. The only area the lightning will beat the fgr2 is top speed and it’s missiles. And also has a terrible fuel load

Highest flying interceptor- Citation needed, Mig 25 can go to 68,000 ft and the Mig 31 can go to 82,00ft Highest climb rate - Citation needed, the F.6 does 250m/s the Mig 31 does 288m/s 20g overload and all aspect for Red Tops missiles - the Red tops were only all aspect against Super sonic targets and where did you get the 20gs from?

Before people goes "iTs gOnNa cliMb 250 m/s", no. Gaijin already debunkt it, they got the official specs from RAF:s own documents about its performance and it will have 20-25k feet/min which is roughly 120-140 m/s. It will have an awesome acceleration and thrust but people tend to praise it as a SATURN V rocket that will climb to the moon in a 90 degree climb. Wikipedia and third party article tend to not have the most accurate sources. EDIT: also very limited fuel as those engines drains them in a couple of minutes with those crazy afterburners.

The Official Documentation was never released. Especially the High performance Research regarding Maximum altitude and efficiencies and climb rate after raping a couple U2’s in 1984. What Gaijin has gotten is the standard RAF training documentation that lists its service ceiling and 60k which is the same as every other jet and the max climb of 25k/m. Which is just standard 45° Dry climb performance. As such to not have new pilots break the things in peace time. When it’s been proven to consistently fly at a ballistic profile up to 84,000ft and a max of 88,000 before the AOA is unsustainable under Peacetime engine performance. Not WEP. Which would give the engines an extra 2,000lbs of thrust. The Events of 1984 are still covered under the Non disclosure for another 14 years and the Official Secrets act for another 64 years, depending on the information involved so I wouldn’t get your hopes up on knowing the Truth about the lightning unless you’re a pilot or have known a pilot of one of the Unlimited Lightning’s. Namely XR749. But by design. There was less wing area, Mass and Drag then the F4C. Considering it was a short range Interceptor. Not a Multi purpose Fighter. The performance profiles won’t be similar in the slightest unless you count the XF4H series with No radar, low fuel and no spar reinforcements. Which in all honesty would have made a fucking great interceptor. Better then the Lightning. No idea why the yanks went for the F104 death trap.

Climb rate should get you to 11,000 metres in under 3 minutes from the the runway if you maintain 830kmh IAS climbing. But I’m more concerned that gaijin model all its radar systems correctly. The lightning had one of the first ever HUDS and one of the first monopulse radars which could predict the direction targets were going in and guide the aircraft in behind the target depending on the weapons selected, so if you had a missile selected the radar would lead you behind the target to a position where you could fire it. The radar and gunsight system all together was called AIRPASS. If gaijin doesn’t model the radar and firing computer properly I will be very upset
