The 2020 Instrument transformer is a high impedance 1:1 ratio high performance audio transformer in a small box with 1/4" jacks. The 2020 allows you to put a studio-grade transformer anywhere in your instrument's signal chain (1/4" jacks), giving any pedal some studio mojo before it hits your next pedal, amp, or DI Box. Plus, 2020's can be daisy chained for extra color!
This unit does not require a power supply to operate and it introduces no noise to your signal. The 2020 is a 1:1 ratio, high impedance, high performance audio transformer in a small pedal enclosure with 1/4" jacks. The audio transformer is custom designed and manufactured by Mike, in house. Its precision wound on a computer controlled transformer winding machine and features a core with a high level of Nickel to provide a wide bandwidth in a very small package. The transformer is housed in a MuMetal shielding can for excellent EMI shielding from external sources and its engineered to exhibit extremely low insertion loss.

Does it make a beneficial difference? I don't hear anything in this demo, with the boost pedal.

I measure about 6 Henries of inductance on mine and it slightly warms up the sound. I like it and keep attached to my Tonex 1. It adds a nice subtle coloration, like going through an old piece of studio gear.

Amazing job you have done with this unit. I tell everyone, willing to lend an ear, about audio signal transformer use, saturation, and what I just learned the more technical term from your video in the even order harmonics. Hell input, output, matching, direct box (15:1), isolation (1:1), etc audio signal transformers make up a good percentage of the vintage sound profile people often call warm when referring to vacuum tube amplifiers, vintage recording consoles, etc... I am going to have to try one of your Lightning Boy XFRMR ISO units, I am always sharking ebay looking for a steal on pulled audio console transformers which I use in my effect pedals as passive mojo inducing D.I. XLR outputs. Not only do they look super cool in the can mounted to the box, but they sound amazing (especially on bass guitars), and they honestly save a lot of components that would be required to make an active XLR D.I. output. I even fancy them up with some special tape to give them a intriguing aesthetic. Can't wait to buy one of your units!

I like how you think. I have been using a similar diy stereo transformer box for my live sound mixes.. great stuff 👍

LIGHTNING BOY AUDIO, Do you make an guitar isolation transformer so its high impedance to high impedance line isolator box plus with a ground lift switch to float the ground. The single coil pickups in telecasters and stratocaster have hiss noises and hum which the unbalanced high impedance to high impedance line isolator transformer box should REMOVE all the single coil RF interferences, 60hz hum, room lights buzzing, guitar amplifiers line transformer hum, etc?

Hello? CMR, Mention "Common Mode Rejection", ( or maybe don't want to sell so many that they can't keep up? )

No its not, but the 2020i will be coming out soon and it offers ground isolation. Please check back. Thanks!

@@biggermikebass1026 ground lift isolation lets you get off that horrible ground loop noise. I use direct boxes with ground lift feature to eliminate this problem

Harmonic coloration AKA transformer tone. How you use it and/or how many of them will determine the degree of the coloration.

How come you don't mention "Common Mode Rejection" ...that's the reason i would buy it...all noise is common mode, it's better than a noise gate by a long shot..
@LightningBoyAudio
@LightningBoyAudio 3 жыл бұрын
Common mode rejection is certainly a feature. Not all noise is common mode. There’s ground loop noise, carbon composition resistors create a hiss noise, thermal noise, etc.
@RulgertGhostalker

@@LightningBoyAudio yeah that's true... i was referring to interference noise picked up by the instrument.

I hear only reverb .
@jamescovan8853

There's definitely reverb, but transformers actually add sustain. Basically, a transformer creates a magnetic field that doesn't dissipate as quickly as the signal you feed into it. A guitar is composed off many sine waves, all oscillating at different frequencies. A transformer takes all these oscillating waves, and sends them into a transformer, where they share a common magnetic field. The magnetic field isn't strong enough to lock the electrical currents that carry your signal into place, but it does bond them together, and then the field tends to sort them into frequencies, because the magnetic field tends to pass current at different rates, depending on frequency. This is why transformers tend to produce harmonics, and also create a sort of "cohesiveness", but also seem to stratify notes and provide clarity and sustain... you send current that contains everything you play into a common magnetic field... the magnetic field negotiates between what it receives in real time, and what it releases based on frequency being able to translate itself through the magnetic field, independent of the source... and the field produced by the coiled wire does not release current as readily as if it had run through a straight wire. I know you probably think I'm bullshitting because there WAS reverb on it, but the difference would probably be more audible without it.
