There's also the SS Selma, another concrete ship in Galveston Bay. She struck a jetty shortly after launching, and was towed to a sandbar, and is still visible today. I always used to look for her while taking the ferry, as I was fascinated by the idea that a ship made of concrete could float.

I really love looking at abandoned places/things like shipwrecks. It's just so fascinating how it looked then and now and what happened to it. Big example: the titanic my favorite shipwreck. How it split into two and how Stoopid the captain and creators were to not put more lifeboats on and to not listen to iceberg warnings, and how if the titanic would have hit the iceberg head on, it most likely would have survived since that would have only hit 1/2 watertight compartments. Also all the pictures underwater it just looks so cool, but the stern got the rough end of the deal. (Sorry this is long)

I went on a detachment to Iwo Jima which for anyone who doesn't know was a WW2 battleground between Americans and the Japanese. Tiny little island in the middle of the Pacific between Guam and the Japanese mainland. There's a beach on the southern side of the island past the invasion beach and mount suribachi with multiple shipwrecks, I think they were Japanese cargo ships, they resurfaced as water levels dropped due to volcanic activity. It's extremely chilling to see these concrete goliaths broken into pieces and washed ashore, especially since I am a sailor myself.

It was taken to London years later, where plans to restore and use it were abandoned.
