After fifteen years of using it, Lightroom supplies everything I need and use in a single program. I occasionally use photoshop for complicated content aware fill and simple compositing. I guess I’m too old and lazy to try to get my head around new applications. But I see the value of Luminar for less experienced and less regular users.

Fascinating how the leading imaging software sat on their laurels in terms of AI and allowed the competition to leap ahead. Neo is quite amazing in its simplicity and I can see how it appeals to so many.

100%. Lightroom are playing catch up for sure. There's definitely pros and cons of both pieces of software but on the AI, Adobe have been caught napping.

I use both of these products, and have been with Lightroom for years. At this point in time, I prefer the tools and interface of Neo better. For photo editing, not data organization. Great overview of these products, thanks for sharing.

I have Luminar Neo with my brand new desktop. I have lots of space on the drives, video cards with lot of RAM. Luminar Neo takes FOREVER just to load. It's lay out is confusing. Sure wish I could just get my money back. I would, in a heart beat. I rarely, if ever, use it sadly.

I use it on MacBook Pro M1pro and it runs perfect, but you're not the first I've heard saying this.

I've never used it on a PC but on the Mac it's fine - the software loads instantly. If you really lay it on thick with the effects then it can slow down but then Photoshop has the same issues if you start getting into it. In terms of performance, the AI functions of Luminar can't really be compared with Lightroom because Lightroom is much simpler software by comparison. But yes, over the years I've also seen performance-related comments. Like I say though, a one-click AI sky replacement is a bigger task than anything Lightroom can throw at your computer and it might just be one of many, many effects.

Thank you for comparison, I think both of them have come incredibly far. They are light years from where they began. I am quite curious to see what the next decade brings. Cheers 🍻

Thanks so much for the tip! Will def check Luminar Neo and upgrade my LrC masking skills as well!

Interesting, Luminar allows one to adjust thing sieyhouy masking and layers in photoshop brushing stuff just to improve the eyes. This is definitely nice feature. 5:06 But I can probably do it in Photoshop, but if doing many shots that's not optimal, but it snot sometimes I would need often. So fs rive not needed to.

I have an older version of Luminar, and really like it. I do use Lightroom CC quite a bit because I have a subscription to it through my job. I really like the cloud storage, especially for my iPad, where storage is pretty limited. I think I will try Luminar Neo. I do a lot of drone photography, and I see that it has a tool for removing power lines! That would be huge to me! Thanks for the nice video!

This was a really well done comparison. I have Luminar Neo and love it, but I've been interested in how it compares to Lightroom as the somewhat "official" app for professionals. I think for now I'll stick with what I have so as to not incur further expense, and even monthly expense on a very limited budget. For goodness sake, I'm still using the Canon EOS T5i (which still does get decent pictures)! lol

Very interesting. Has Luminar Neo got any organisational skills. I’m using an old version of Lightroom standalone and won’t be upgrading to a subscription model, but it also means I can’t update the OS on my computer. Would love to find a non-subscription Mac-based solution

The file management isn't as complex as Lightroom's. But there is favouriting, rating, albums, folders etc., so it's still plenty for most. I also like that if you move a file out with Luminar, it doesn't unlink it from the Luminar library. With Lightroom, things can get messy quickly if you start moving files out with the software.

Hey Stew, love your vids! I am using Luminar AI, is it worth upgrading to Neo? Have been tempting to switch to LR as they have a ton of presets out there but really don't want the monthly subscription. Also, will LR presets work in Luminar? Thanx

Seems a bit disingenuous to not at least verbally acknowledge that you are sponsored by Luminar Neo (Skylum). The program is clearly capable in many ways but for a genuine "comparison" between the two, acknowledgement of bias needs to be addressed.
