One small detail that I really like is the fact that the rangers' identities are publicly known. It makes total sense because they're rescue workers hired by a military operation and wouldn't waste time with secret identities and just morph right in the open to save people as soon as possible.

The Power Rangers franchise really is a cultural landmark, almost every series of that franchise is a touchstone marking a paradigm shift in how we portrayed our values in the media. Not only that, but the culture from other places that they intentionally and unintentionally exposed the viewers to had the potential to begin the charting of the trajectory of the lives of its viewers, as is evident with this channel.

Lightspeed Rescue has got to be my favorite ranger team. It feels like Power Rangers is actually taking itself seriously. There's no Bulk and Skull here, nobody getting drinks dumped on their head almost every episode. There's still humor. Some of Joel's failed attempts to date Miss Fairweather were kind of funny. But both characters had a ton more to bring to the show than just antics. Instead of putting the fate of the world in the hands of 5 teenagers with attitude, they've selected adults. People who already have relevant skills and experience, like firefighting and nursing. They no longer have to balance school, a bazillion other activities, and saving the world all while hiding a secret identity. They make no attempts to hide who they are, and they can devote their full attention to training and otherwise preparing for their ranger duties. They have a base full of what seems to be hundreds of support personnel. They live on-base, and are provided with basic services like a cafeteria so they can put more time into training. There are people to track and monitor threats, and an R&D department to build new weapons and zords. Speaking of zords -- I like the theory that they've been given access to pieces of destroyed zords from previous seasons, which they've studied in order to build their own. I really like that the first set of zords also fit with the skills of the ranger driving them. I'm always a fan of giving individual zords abilities beyond just "become part of the megazord" and I think LSR did this better than any other season. For the first time, their powers are a whole lot more than just punch, kick, or shoot enemies. They put out fires, they rescue people trapped in buildings, Joel even uses magnet cables to catch a bus that was about to fall off a bridge. They're actually saving people's lives instead of just getting in a gigantic fight and causing a lot of collateral damage every week. If you ask me, the only bad thing about the season -- and it's a big one -- is the villains. I would've put the LSR rangers up against someone more like Astronema or the Machine Empire.

I watched Mighty Morphin while I was in elementary school, and continued to watch until about Turbo. I would catch the occasional episode of In Space or Lost Galaxy, but I was over Power Ranger by the time I got to high school. But while I was in high school I was dealing with some emotional issues. What teen isn't. So, I started to watch the latest season of Power Rangers as a type of security blanket. Something familiar from my childhood that I could focus on to not let the stress and anxiety overwhelm me. That season was Lightspeed Rescue. It was more down to Earth, and felt more like Mighty Morphin than In Space or Lost Galaxy's more epic feel. So, that added to the familiarity that helped comfort me. But, I feel the biggest thing about Lightspeed Rescue that helped me the most was Carter. A hero's hero. Carter's pure awesomeness and motivational personality helped to give me the strength I needed to make it through school and accept myself for who I was. Plus, Dana is super cute. ;) Lightspeed Rescue may not be the best season of Power Rangers, especially with those villains, but because of how it helped me through a rough time in my life, it will always be my favorite.

Lailah Nolen Lightspeed honestly reminds me a lot of the later Stargate SG-1 series where it starts off with tons of material, but slows down later on. I think Lightspeed was at it's weakest when it tried to do things other seasons had done and done better. Diabolico being some kind of villain with standards like Ecliptor and Villamax comes out of nowhere as you said. And even Ryan's arc come across as a weaker version of Green With Evil and Karone's arc from In Space. Also, one theory I've had (and one I hope becomes canon one day) is that the Space Rangers helped form Lightspeed. Andros mentions an important mission on Earth for them to deal with at the end of The Power of Pink. The Rescue Zords could have been reverse engineered from the Turbo Zords and Kelsey knowing who Leo is could make sense if the Space team left some files on the Galaxy Rangers for Lightspeed to review.

I actually really loved the dynamic of Diabolico being caring/ friends with Loki and Vypra. I wish that was played that up more to show a contrast between him and Queen Bansheera. I wanted to them to make it even more believable that Diabolico would betray Bansheera, or even that other demons would plot against her and Olympius to support Diabolico. I was thrilled that Diabolico's spirit came back at the end to help them finish off Bansheera and save Carter. I felt that if they had played up the more honorable side of Diabolico, they could've perhaps highlighted a growing respect between him and Carter as caring leaders of their respective groups. This would've made it much more believable that Carter would be able to reach out to him while he was brainwashed/zombied by Olympius.

Audience question! Do you prefer seasons where the Power Rangers are teenagers with attitudes, or do you prefer when they're adults? Even when I was a kid I always preferred the latter. To me, the seasons where the rangers are adults are all around more mature and darker in nature, and contrary to popular belief, kids can and do love more mature content. To me, darker kids shows such as Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, In Space, RPM, The Last Airbender, and Teen Titans fueled my creativity the most.
@aaa1e2r36 жыл бұрын
I honestly prefer the seasons with an adult cast, mainly because they are allowed to do *different* stories in comparison to the teen teams. when it comes to a teenage team, they're almost obligated to do the school dance ep, the bully ep, the crush ep, etc. Now this doesn't mean we don't get these same type of episodes with the adult seasons, or that teen seasons don't have unique or original episodes, but there definitely seems to be a check list of pre-requisites when it comes to using a high school setting.

@rixarts146 жыл бұрын
I think Lightspeed Rescue's themes of Heroism is stronger here than in most seasons because the military aspect and most of the ranger's professions are positions of heroics. I connect with this aspect better because these are real world professions and with the team prioritising rescue it just makes them seem like 'real' heroes. Sure other seasons do this but I think this is stronger here because we witness Firefighters helping people when a building is ablaze, we trust Medical Professionals when we're injured, so having that being not an aesthetic but apart of their characters makes this season stand out. Though I believe they could have done more but like everything else in this season, it didn't really bother me too much.

Long text wall incoming (tl;dr down below), but this two parter pretty much established why Lightspeed is my all-time favorite series. I'd loved this series since the beginning, I was only a kid(about 5) but I'd watched Power Rangers all the time on VHS. But the one series that stuck out to me was Lightspeed, it was the first time I said "these guys could be real" because it felt the most real to me. Because it was a team of gathered professionals, including medic and fireman, I felt an instant connection. One I didn't get from Marvel or DC at the time(plus this was more accessable for me at the time). So much so, that I dreamed about being a hero. Not just any hero, I wanted to be a Power Ranger. Looking back, a lot of what I did was centered around that. Whenever I felt stuck, I always came back to that core dream. So when High School was nearing it's end and I had to choose a path for my life, even though I had never had any clue on what career or work I wanted to do, I instinctively wanted to do something heroic. At the time, I chose firefighting without much hesitation. I barely got through high school and didn't want to go to college or university. I also remembered my favorite series and how our beloved red ranger was also a fireman. That motivated me, so lanky ass me, no real physical ability, trained and prepared for the exam. An exam I passed with flying colours. However I never got a job as one because there wasn't any need in my area. It's every two years, but I don't think I can manage to go through it again, fearing the same result. So, 2 years pass and the same question pops up, what do I want to me. After connecting a few dots, I decided on being an EMT. So I took the course and barely passed, resolving to never go through a classroom setting ever again. Seriously, the only reason I passed was because of retests. I averaged a 50 and was the lowest scoring in that class. But I passed and want to get nationally registered. And failed, 3 times, and I can't travel to take remedial classes. 3 strikes, I'm out. Words cannot capture my mentality, emotion or state of being. Even now, like a month later I'm still reeling. Countless hours spent studying, testing and reviewing medicine. Following the "Work hard enough and you can achieve anything" mantra. Even still, I wasn't good enough. I passed the practical with no problem, but the written exam stopped me dead. I didn't walk away empty handed however, I am First Aid/CPR/AED certified, which is nice. But man does a broken dream hurt. I mean, if my life were a movie, you probably could've seen this coming. An F student who almost dropped out thinking he could work in medicine? Laughable right? So, now I'm pretty lost. I can find work in other fields and I'm making enough to support myself, but I fear I'll live a life that I wanted to avoid which may lead to an early death thanks to a few complications I had last year. Granted, I'm still young. I'm only 23, but will I live to see 24? The way things are going, I don't know. I can't really see a future for myself, I never have. Maybe it's a generational thing, feeling like this, but I hate being the one left behind while everyone else I know pursues or has achieved their goals. Never the less, I still hold a vain dream about being a Ranger. This failure still has this childish ambition. But after constant defeats at the mighty hands of life and the brutal reality that I'm simply not good enough, this dream may die a little before I do. Even so, I want to help people, I want to be there when times are tough. if lives are in danger or when someone needs assistance, I can't stop my body from responding. I want to fight to protect. Live just like my heroes. Even though I feel so empty and directionless, without purpose or meaning, I still find myself dreaming about a reality where I became a Ranger like my heroes. My heart isn't in much of anything, especially not advancing in what I do, instead it's still trying to heal from our dream defeated. Despite everyone rooting for me and believing in me, I failed, a total disappointment, even though I'm sure they don't consciously think or believe that. So even though I'm a complete failure, I still hold Tokusatsu close to my heart and Lightspeed as a favorite team, because it's the only thing that made me proactively pursue a future for myself, something I've never been able to see for myself. tl;dr I love lightspeed because it was the only thing that made me feel like I had a future, when with anything else, I can't see one. Even though any effort to be a real hero is met with complete failure, mostly because I can't be good enough. Sorry for the sob story, but I felt context was important, especially since again, this is the series that means the most to me.

I think all of the team had valid reasons why they were recruited. Carter and Dana were chosen because of their respective fields. Chad was chosen because of his scuba training and skills in underwater environments, which can be useful in certain rescue situations. I like to think Chad was former Coast Guard or something to better help explain his skill set. Joel was chosen because of his experience as a pilot. Now granted he was a stunt pilot and likely didn't have any military level experience, but at the very least he must have shown more skill than your average pilot. Kelsey was likely chosen due to her athleticism and experience in climbing and rappelling, which can come in very useful in risky rescue situations where it is necessary to have a good foot or handhold. Now most of this is speculation, but I do think overall the people chosen were solid candidates. Hell, it's better than how the Overdrive team was chosen.

While I always thought that the LR team being able to find their groove from the very start slightly unrealistic, in thinking back on it, it has a lot to do with Carter. From the very beginning, Carter exudes an aura of a natural born leader. Just being around him makes you feel like everything is going to be alright. Despite being put into circumstances beyond their control, Carter's mere presence was enough for the team to rally behind him and transition into being Rangers with little to no trouble. Disney Brain, have you thought of doing a fanfic of incorporating Dairanger into MMPR Season 2? It would be the most epic crossover in PR history. Anyways, here is my version: The season opener starts with the introduction to Lord Zedd just like how the season did it. Except this time, we see him bring the Dark Rangers right off the bat instead of being a glorified pair of filler episodes. Instead of the dorky suits we saw, the Dark Rangers will be wearing the Dairanger costumes to show the stark contrast in style with the current PR team. This team specialises in Chinese martial arts(exactly like in Dairanger), and their human forms will be the original Japanese actors, but they don't talk(we don't their faces until halfway through S2). We see the Dark Rangers terrorise the city now bringing lots of destruction. The MMPR team comes in to face them(minus Tommy, because fading Green ranger powers), but they get owned quite hard, since this threat happens to be more adept at martial arts than they are. Tommy, watching from the command center, refuses to be a mere spectator to the fight and decides to morph into battle, knowing full well that he probably won't be able to morph again. That's my beginning of my personal fanfic. What do you think?

Although due to possible show boating an accident occurs leading to him being court marshaled and ultimately dishonorably discharged. Joel soon discovers show flying and that's where he is when he's drafted for Lightspeed. This way he can still be a performer but also a stronger connection to everyday heroes. I just realized that this is similar to the back story of Swat Kats Razor & T-Bone.

I agree Dana is the weakest link to this team but even she proved that she isn't a bad character, but i can't help but feel they could've did more with her. Chad i thought he was the weakest for a time but watching this series again proved me wrong, but i still feel they could've done a bit more with him. Kelsey is one of my favorite yellow rangers, the lightspeed rangers aside from Carter didn't get alot of moments but it has always been a treat to see Kelsey in action. Joel was a charming character from start to finish and my 3rd favorite member of the team and he is definitely the most three dimensional character here. And what else can be said about our stand out star that hasn't been said already? Carter mother effing Grayson is a freaking badass from start to finish, he is definitely in my top 3 favorite red rangers. and Fate of Lightspeed is one of my favorite power ranger finales, LOVE to see a list of that one day btw.

I got bored of Lightspeed Rescue after two episodes, but it's definitely something I'd recommend to kids: it won't insult their intelligence, and it pulls off the "rescue workers are real-life superheroes!" thing really well. Also, here's a jokey comic about the Mitchells I made a while ago: imgur.com/gallery/5ZCdEly

I was annoyed with Joel at times, but I didn't hate him. He worked well with Chad when the two got together. Personally my two favorite characters from this season were Chad and Kelsey. Carter was great, but he was meant to be great. Chad and Kelsey felt more realatable to me for some reason. I'm still trying to figure out why.

One thing I'd have loved for you to cover would be some of the Lightspeed Rescue safety PSAs. Most if not all Power Ranger teams will do some sort of safety PSA in character or the like, But I would say special mention should come with these PSAs.

For me the entire season stands on Mitchell and the relation between Ms F and Joel. I really didn't care much about the others, other than the interaction of the rangers with Mitchell. Also I actually liked the demons interactions, and the Loki death scene. They are comrades: Ok, they are not friends, but they probably know each other for real for that long

I was shipping Kelsey with Chad so hard as a 5 year old kid lmao. Although by nature and bias due to typical MMPR shipping I would always go for pink and red but I found kelsey way more attractive since back then. Most of my ex's are also athletic both in sports and build, Lightspeed truly is the awakening for me

The only two villains i liked from light speed resuce where diabolico because his action at the start just seem like him being petty and his quick turn of loyalty when he finds out the baby his been taking care of is gona have his power Olympius since his Technoloy the youngerest villain character in power rangers since he went from baby to adult in few days and all he has is his devotion to his mother and his surrounded by other villains quickly lose interest on taking care of him because of diabolic star. i would like him even more if he took his heal time to think about placement in all of this and figure out his mom dosent care about him
@whynot62663 жыл бұрын
Me too. Me too, I only likes these two because they seem more interesting than the rest of the demons. Especially Olympius. And the dynamic between them is also interesting to say the least. *sigh*. I get ya, I get ya, bro, I also wish Olympius figured out his mom didn't love him and his placement in all of this Note: please, edit your spelling

i still liked Diabolico even though they failed with their attempt to make him a villain with standards like Ecliptor was
@baroque4days Жыл бұрын
I like the idea about having Bansheera deceive everyone into fighting each other, the final result was a bit weird. Olympius probably could have been used better too considering how obsessed with her he was only to be betrayed. I mean, maybe he wouldn't turn on her but at least dying knowing she had no care in the world for him might have sold it to Diabolico more that he needed to turn against her.

I don't care if this is a hot take but as a kid I loved this season way more than time force and still do. Time for is a really good season don't get me wrong, but this season just connects to me so much.
@DocX96 жыл бұрын
I disagree with you wanting all the villains to be like Deviot (all out for them selves & stabbing each other in the back. They would basically be the villains from Overdrive but still part of the same faction. Vypra defiantly needed a better actress, but if imdb is to be believed it was her first role & they needed someone to match the the sentai footage for that character. And that is the big problem with the villains, this was the first season since Zeo to have no original villains. There was an uncertainty with what to do with the demons for the season that they didn't figure out until the last third of the season.

@puretablehd47666 жыл бұрын
I have a idea that it was the strongest megazord they had but it requires the morphing grid to make it that powerful so when the minions took control the Zord it was weakened by the fact the demons lacked the grid making it the weakest.

It could be they made the conscious decision To devote less effort on the villain side of things to focus on the heroes of the story as it was a season built on heroism.

Lightspeed rescue was a good season however it was too rushed and condensed in its storyline. Titanium ranger should've had more screen time. I wish Ryan & Carter went on the mission together to capture them demons. Carter & Ryan could've been a dynamic duo like Andros and Zhane. Lightspeed rescue was too condensed and rushed. Lightspeed Rescue had some great concepts with the storyline & backstory along the team chemistry and the lightspeed rescue organization. Lightspeed rescue had plenty of potential to be a phenomenal season but it didn't live up to its potential

Have you every thought of a top ten of power ranger tropes that happen in every season? Like there needs to be a body switching episode in every season right? I don't really know if you made one already, I'm new to your channel. Love the work you do!
@xgray20126 жыл бұрын
No, actually Mighty Morphin' (season one), Super Megaforce, Dino Super Charge and Super Ninja Steel are the only ones that had a body-swap episode. But, not all of the seasons of Power Rangers need to have one just to be cool. Well, Mystic Force's episode "Hard Heads" was an adaptation of Magiranger's episodes 39 and 40, which ironically were a two-part body-swap episode arc that really should've been used for Nick and Madison's characters in adaptation. Or Xander and Vida's characters in adaptation. But it wasn't.
@MichiZlogs6 жыл бұрын
@@xgray2012 Funny enough, those are really only the seasons I've watched haha. Should Power rangers have one episode they ALWAYS need to do as a tradition kind of thing? I was gonna say Christmas episodes but if they're just clipshows, it's not really worth it. I think I was trying to say tropes as in how there is always a giant explosion after they morph.
