Two of the major showrunners on that project went on to make KP and you can see a lot of DNA from that show in here. Not just cause of the voice cast carrying over, but how Zurg talks and presents himself as a villain, it's super funny how much he resembles Drakken.

I can see why people feel underwhelmed by the film after seeing it. I enjoyed it overall and felt it was harmless fun space adventure. What made me almost dislike the film, was the poor handling and contrivance of the major plot twist in the 3rd act. Let's say, it comes out of left field and poked a major hole in the plot, that created more questions than answers.

Buzz himself was a legend, while at times the galaxy was at stake, especially in the movie pilot (Zurg found a way to basically fire his consciousness at any planet and take over the inhabitants, potentially turning the galaxy into an evil hive mind).

Several copy and pasted bot-like or double reviews saying 1/10 to drive the narrative. It's more of a 7/10 movie. Watching the documentary on this film made me realize how long they’ve actually been trying to make a film like this since toy story 2, it does feel a little safe but considering they said in interviews that the original script had too much loss yeah I kind of get why they had to change it. Also the plot twist with Zurg I didn’t like at first but the deeper I thought about it, it did fit the films message of not letting your strengths becoming your weakness and living in the past. As for the misfits they aren’t terrible one note yes but even one note characters can be good just look at Atlantis another flawed Disney movie but with personality it’s all in the performance for me not just the writing but at the same time I get it

12:03 dopest stealth mode that is one of the coolest advanced retro tech from classic sci films influence where Martin mentioned in the twitch version. 12:44 one of the best moments of the movie’s advanced animation to make the action sequences so dope. The visuals and designs of this film look good and are excellent. I know you guys didn't really bring it up, but I'll say that the mintue they announced that there would be a gay character in here I immediately knew it would be the black women and sure enough it is. It feels like that and being sassy are the only characterizations we have for black women in media and that Hollywood is bold to have a default interracial gay pairing but the straight interracial pairings (like black men with white women) are few and far between in mainstream movies.

Plot hole change my mind: Sox is a robot and should be able to remember the formula. Also why is a colony size spaceship, the turnip, main engine running on a crystal that they don't know how to recreate? I can understand the year or more to build a base, mine for materials, stand the ship up/fix, but why do they need to reinvent crystal technology? This is like early sailors, crash landing on a island, but then to get of they need to reinvent how to make a boat float.

(I maybe wrong) But I do not think that would be much of a issue to the point were they are doing blind trial and error on mixtures, nor to the point were a robot working on it for needs 62 years to calculate a fix. Also why not have multiple and/or better suited robots/AIs do what SOX did? They could have halved the time. Why were the team so quick to have a maned tests if they did not have a theoretically correct mix that takes 62 years to make. Also they should have had multiple backups (on board) to such a critical fuel /power component for a starship. This makes my engineering side scream at such a misstep of planning that is not addressed in the movie.

Also they couldn't determine where they were going wrong in making the crystal without testing it, they state that too.

I understand that the mission changed but they would have had more AIs doing what Sox did for buzz because of a off-handed comment.

I was disappointed in this movie man.. It really feels like Disney has found a way to make their main characters be the, "guest stars" in their own universe! I don't know what the hell Andy saw in Buzz that made him rush out and buy the toy, but I ain't seeing it.

Star wars people. Before the franchise developed animated spin-off series, kids were definitely buying the figurines from the 4-6 films alone. I bet andy buying the toy after seeing the movie is realistic. This was the START of his being a fan

I’m looking forward for Lightyear. Already some religious fundamentalists and homophobic people are already attacking the movie because it has two lesbian characters. I’m still going to see it and ignore the homophobic hate against it.

That's a totally reasonable thing to say. And I'm glad to see it. Love it, hate it, point out the timeline inconsistencies, it's just tiring seeing the "woke, woke, everything is woke, I'm upset again" crowd whining in perpetuity. "Gay people in a movie!? It must be woke! Gay's don't exist, it was a Hollywood invention to make conservatives cry! I'm okay with gays, as long as they hate themselves, but when they start getting roles in movies that's where I draw the line!". Same old conservative nonsense we've had shoved down our throats, censoring our games, music, but it's so obnoxious at this point it makes me miss the 90s. Back then Conservatives just openly were against, what they were against. Now there is a whole other layer of obnoxious where they try to pretend they aren't Conservatives, but in fact it's the companies going "woke", and not them being uptight religious bigots. Just hate the characters and think it sucks, stop whining forever about how someone wrote a character you find upsets your sensibilities.

It would’ve been great if this was a Masters Of The Universe or TMNT type situation. With The Buzz Lightyear Star Command cartoon being a huge deal for kids like Andy, so a studio decides to make a super serious movie of it to cash in.

I had a big problem with the production design, the grounded and gritty style clashes with the iconic Buzz suit and Zurg's cartoony design. And it doesn't look like a movie that was made in the 90s that a kid saw, it felt too modern like Interstellar or Annihilation. I would have taken inspiration from The Jetsons, The Fifth Element, Guardians of the Galaxy, and some games like Beyond Good and Evil and even the Ratchet and Clank games would work.
