"That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." The reason we are saved

There is a direct correlation, and a hand in hand relationship, between the church receiving poor theological training, and understanding of who God is, and then having poor man centered worship. If we don't understand who God is, we don't know how to properly worship God. This is so evident with Christ's confrontation with the woman at the well, she needed to know and understand who Christ was so she and others can worship God in Spirit and in Truth.

"5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. "In what ways have we accommodated ourselves to the culture around us in terms of what we are doing in worship?" Calvin would say (among other things): musical instrumentation

This was very helpful. I enjoy music and praise to God but the old hymns are not the only way yet the modern style I feel has swung way too far and is more focused on the people, bands, singer, that it is on God. I dunno ...would seem churches could find a balance between modern style and ancient hymns to honor and praise Him. Yet it only in my experience seems to be you get only one extreme or the other. I think that lives more along the note of a spirit of fear and of legalism which is equally as wrong as theater band sessions at the pulpit. Guitars and all the wonderful items of music can all be used to praise Him and He tells us all about them through out His Word. We should strive to find a balance which is absolutely 100 % humble & honoring to Him.

Some good points about worship... but who is this Calvin that he becomes the focal point of this man's teaching ?

Calvin - A Holy Spirit led instrument that God called to help "His" Church - A basic Repeat of "Paul"...

Good observation. Calvin is a man that has had a great influence among those who call themselves Calvinist or reformed. Along with Augustine .

For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2 ESV It's OK to name drop once in awhile, but the sermon about worship should focus on Christ and not the musings or thoughts of another man. All Christians should have a similar desire to worship Jesus as taught by the Holy Spirit. It shouldn't sound like an academic pursuit such as this.
