I would argue that mult is much more in important. In fact, my advice to other balatro players on plasma deck is to just play it like any other deck, and the balancing effect will carry you through the larger blind requirements. Like another commenter said. Mult is the only aspect of your score that can grow multiplicatively or exponentially. Chips are only ever a flat additive score, so for endgame it's much easier to get higher scores with mult.

@@griffintwalsh you are demonstrably incorrect. i put every variable from NL's run around the 26:32 mark into Balatro Calculator and ran the hypotheticals. with a hand of 5 stone cards, 6.1x mult constellation, 14.5x mult hologram, 1300 chip stone, 9 mult swash, 15 mult mystic, lv26 high card: 19698 x 19698 388 million mystic summit accounts for about 26mil of the score above the baseline of having neither blue nor mystic if mystic is replaced with a ~176 chip blue joker (assuming all discards are used to find the gold queens + 5 stones): 19122 x 19122 365 million blue joker accounts for only 2mil score above the baseline of having neither blue nor mystic NL was correct in saying that stone joker is providing so many chips that mystic's mult, multiplied by two xMulters (if brainstorm is copying hologram, hologram can't be after mystic) is far more impactful than the chips blue joker gives. 15 * 14.5 * 6.1 = 1,326 mult with plasma deck you have to look at the raw numbers, not whether something is chips or mult -- the fact is that mult has long-term multiplying options via jokers, and chips don't. there's no xChips options. additive chips will always be outscaled by multiplicative mult in an endless situation, with sufficient base mult present. *sure you can get big initial values on the chips side easier, but this has diminishing returns (as demonstrated by blue joker being much less impactful than mystic summit once xMult is applied.)*

Fun fact: you can actually get Brainstorm/Blueprint to hit both Marble Joker and Certificate-Marble adds the cards when you select the blind, while Certificate adds them after you draw your first hand. So if you move Certificate while the stone cards are being added, Blueprint/Brainstorm will then copy Certificate before it activates.

That run was hard to watch. No offense to the guy, but it seemed like the runner had very little experience with the game, and he was also clearly nervous. Not the best way to showcase the game at GDQ; hopefully it comes back at some point.

mystic summit was actually better there, it was getting multiplied by *8 then a *14 which is loads higher than the 200 chips from blue joker. flat mult was all he needed in the endgame since it was getting multed so much, his mult was usually higher than his chips starting around ante 10

great run! The brainstorm + mult multer on far left + planets tech is one of my favorites. In future runs, you can move brain storm farther right past your other flat multers for even more mult!

The mult multing was actually paying off. At 22:53, for example, the score is around 2600 x 2000 before the balance. Chips are great for ante 8, but multi mult will still scale far better for endless.

NL was actually right to think about copying the flat Mult at 26:00. Because of his X mult at the time which was aprox 6X on constellation and 14X on hologram, that 15 mult turns into 1260, which is actually better than the stone joker at 1250. So many people think the plasma deck is all about chips, but when it comes to endless it’s actually the exact opposite. Because plasma treats chips and mult the same, the most important score factor is always the one that you can make the highest. Before endless that factor is chips because chip sources on average provide a much higher number than mult. However, when you get to endless mult is infinitely better for making a high number because you can increase it multiplicatively whereas chips can only ever be increased additively. It was actually chat, not NL that didn’t understand how the plasma decks works all along 🤯

it never makes sense to copy flat mult over x mult though when your x mult is over 2. at best, copying flat mult results in a little worse than 2x the total mult because the base amount can't go over 2x the value of the flat mult because there's other sources of mult (from the hand level and card enhancements). copying x mult however results in another source of x mult which gets multiplied by all of the other sources, so you're effectively squaring your card's x mult when you copy it which is obviously a lot better than multiplying by less than 2 he actually does end up doing exactly this

I hate to say it, but he was right about mult toward the end. At 26:48 he was multiplying his base mult by roughly ×6 and ×14. I did the math, he would need to find a chip joker worth 1260 for it to be worth replacing the Summit's 15 mult (which hanging chad did NOT do). Maybe plasma deck DOES need both chips and mult...

Yes, late game plasma deck works best with mult, especially post ante 8. He didn't need any mult here to beat ante 8 because of the amazing synergy of his 3 chip jokers. The best way to play plasma is to start with chips and then pivot to mult, at some point in endless you are going to relay only on mult - in normal decks your chips are gonna limit you, in plasma that problem doesn't exist because of equalizer - by the endgame NL was getting 300,000 mult vs 2000 chips, making them irrelevant.

Even half the comments are wrong about plasma deck. Chips esrly mult late, this was a great run for that. The biggest misplay, and the one i have seen on multiple runs. Is not copying the mult multer at the end. Before the balance you were anding with roughly equal chips and mult. Therefore copying +chips jokers is roughly *1.5 total score, where as copying holo with *10 would have been a massive increase. You were essentially only using 20% of your potential score with that joker order Wait he did it!!! I think he actually understands the game now. Only thing is move brainstorm to the end since it's effectively a mult multer and thus having it after flat mult is a little better like 8% so not a huge deal but...

I see a lot of back and forth about chips vs. mult in the plasma deck. For anyone wondering, when he beat ante 8, he would have had a higher score if misprint, hologram, and constellation were all debuffed and he had just moved stone joker to the left. If youre going to make a big push into endless, +mult and xmult are going to be your best friends, but if the goal with the early marble + stone was to beat ante 8, keeping misprint at all costs was a bit reckless

Everyone is all chips this, mult that, but I haven't seen anyone mention the fact that he has observatory, which I think would be much more valuable to him if he kept the pluto cards instead of using them, he's only getting 10 chips and 1 mult out of every use, if he built it a little at first and THEN used the pluto cards in inventory to X mult that would have been much more useful for him later on.

Chips and mult are the same thing in every deck. The difference is the type of jokers/cards that make them. Mult gets multed, chips are added at large amounts. Chips are only good in plasma at the start, before you get mult multers
