Rintaro Soma and Kenji Mizuno mostly work on SEGA's arcade rhythm games (maimai, chunithm, ongeki). Seems SEGA have been getting composers from that team to work on their recent console games too (they worked on Sonic Frontiers as well, along with Kanon Oguni, another composer from the rhythm game side), which is cool. Hiro has also worked on maimai, though has also been at SEGA since the 80s

Lost Judgment was already super exciting because, in 2020, all the different sound teams at SEGA were merged into one, so we got to see some different lineups as anyone was on the table to make music for the series. But, just bringing back 2 returning artists, it was only a taste. Then Ishin was a different taste, with 3 composers who's never worked on the series before, but only a track from each of them and no album to spotlight with. Now we can really feel what it's like for the one SEGA SOUND TEAM (and guests) to make a Like a Dragon soundtrack. Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin and Yakuza 6 are probabky the most-respected soundtracks in the series, so I appreciate It is a weird feeling to not have Shoji creating music for the game. Instead, he helped out with the arcade game porting, probably FIGHTING VIPERS2 since that was his original work. Fumio Itoh also helped on that front, gotta be his game DAYTONA USA2. Yuri Fukuda always has amazing songs that fly under the radar. There's been a lot of prominent, funky songs recently, but it feels like she's gone back to her roots with the series, going for the subtle drama. Keitarou Hanada, it's amazing that he's basically the lead composer in this game. It feels familiar, but it's a twinge different. I've learned as much as I can about mysterious Hanada, the man who erased his face, and have loved him ever since SOUL SURFER. Rupture is my standout song. Saori Yoshida, I always enjoy, but for some reason there's been one time when I've really gotten hooked on her work. Maybe I'm not down with youth culture like she is, despite being about a decade younger than her... she's unfortunately still in that zone where a song comes on and I go "woah this is awesome! Who did this? Oh it's Yoshida? That's nice." Ryo Fukuda is a beast of a newcomer. Has he only been around since 2022? He got a thank you in Sonic Frontiers, with one of this game's sound effect creators Hiroki Kiriyama, and, like most of Gaiden's composers, just worked on Sonic Superstars. We will watch your career with great interest. Btw Psycho's Anthem is one of my highlights too! Speaking of watching some's career, I remember telling the WAVE MASTER Twitter account, when Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown was new, that I didn't know Rintaro Soma, but was excited to see him grow. Now, he's a Sonic superstar in his own right and I see so many people always excited tor his music! Hideaki Kobayashi, long ago, made the original score for Yakuza 4, so most people don't know about it. I feel like, in the same way Shoji and gang have been in Yakuza hell for years, not getting to work on other stuff, Kobayashi's been in Phantasy Star Online 2 hell. But it's not hear some different flavours through Sonic Colours Ultimate and Superstars, Sin Chronicle and now LADG. Mitsuharu Fukuyama, he's been amazing forever, and of course we love him for Yakuza. He's kinda been in POS2 hell with Kobayashi since 2012... but also Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games! He did, far as I know, come back to play trumpet on Yakuza: Like a Dragon, though, so that was a promise. I wasn't personally blown away by his song in Gaiden, I think I was surprised when I checked in the middle of hearing it and saw it was Fukuyama, but I don't I've relistened to it enough. Takahiro Kai... you're bringing some new sounds to this! It's so long since that genre was everywhere, but some themes are dubstep, right? The jazz in Lost Judgment was a different feeling too. He seems more experimental with Like a Dragon, whereas his work on CHAIN CHRONICLE, Wonderland Wars, Sonic Superstars, even some maimai, it feels more like it shares DNA. Good to see your electronics can shred just like you play shred guitar! Junpei Mishima is getting comfortable. It sounds like classic heavy orchestra from BORDER BREAK or Shining Force CROSS. Much easier to feel it's him than in Like a Dragon Ishin where I kept going back and forth on which song was his. Kinda the same for Yasuyuki Nagata. Because of 404 GAME RE:SET, the first public photo of Nagata has been released. His electronic metal stuff is just as familiar to me at this point as his close co-worker Mishima's. Y'know, Nagata's somwhat recently defined the sound of a new SRGA franchise, with Eiketsu Taisen, but that later brought on Junpei Mishima and Keitarou Hanada as guests. Hiro... you're a changed man. Or the same man? Master, the instruments you designed for the SANGOKUSHI TAISEN reboot are still being used, and to just have an erhu in sudden SEGA titles, it's so cool. And the other samples. Let's see what will sound Chinese next. Or sound like your old FANTASY ZONE work again (although I saw today he's experimenting with Game Boy sounds, check him out at Hiro Music TV on KZbin). I feel like I'm overblowing how much I adore Satoshi Oike, considering there's only so many songs he's made that I've heard. Maybe a dozen? But I appreciate him getting to work on diverse games and always do new things much like he said he wanted to in 2017. Also, my wish came true and, when you factor in the sound effects designers, we have SEGA's Satoshi Oike, Naoto Oike and Satoshi Okamura all working on the same game for once. Kenji Mizuno said we'd feel a different flavour from him in this game. Sure, he's probably more know for happy stuff, but it's still suave. He is also a Sonic superstar now, after he was with Kai and Oike on Wonderland Wars and the many rhythm games. I wonder if it's the most up my alley song in the game? Also... I still wanna know why Takenobu Mitsuyoshi and Kenichi Tokoi are credited as composers in the game, but don't have any songs on the album. Are there some songs in the game that weren't included? Is it a mixup and their songs are actually going to be in Infinite Wealth? I thought Tokoi made sense for this game since singer Steve Conte, who Tokoi wrote for in Sonic and the Secret Rings, plus Tokoi'd favourite engineer Dave Darlington, were in this. And as for the non-SEGA people... Shunsuke Mikami hits different under his real name. It's interestinf what you said about it sounding different from NEXT DESIGN's work. I can't vouch for it since I only know him from Like a Dragon. The game isn't listed on nextdesign-jp.com, but that could just be because it's so new. 83key, I'm always interested in. Over on RadioSEGA, Gavvie seems to unknowingly be a big fan of 83key. I hope I can recommend he check out the new songs first. Hyd Lunch, I have to listen to again. Somehow I don't remember if they went their iconic rock direction or the more recent dramatic direction for Gaiden. It'll be enthralling either way. Well done ZENTA on the arrangement. It's nice to hear the source again and see what the guitars add to it. And finally, Tomoyuki Tanaka. I remember his rock song reminded me a ton of something specific, but can't remember what it is now. I'll have to edit this when I can listen again.
