Basically Old Snake, he is dying in a few months, but he is getting treatment because he wants to enjoy what little time he has left (just like Old Snake quits smoking at the end of MGS4), however, this is all we got regarding his reunion with Haruka and Haruto??? Its nice to see him reclaiming his name, or Haruto calling him "grampa", but not showing them interacting with each other feels almost sadistic, like they want us to see Kiryu only suffering. I just hope RGG finally just let him rest in peace, everybody loves Ichiban, and this has been the fourth time we saw Kiryu "for the last time", to the point its starting to feel ike a freaking meme. No "Gaiden 2", no guest appareance in Yakuza 9, just give the man a freaking break already...they can make Kiwami 3 or another remake of 1 (the franchise turns 20 next year) if they want to keep milking Kiryu, but when it comes to the story moving forward, just...leave him rest in peace. He earned it, and Ichiban already proved (twice) he can carry the franchise by himself.

If they wanted Kiryu to suffer they could've killed him off with no payoff, they only made him take the cancer treatment and live the rest of his life in peace. He'll probably appear in 9 while he's properly retired, and let him stay that way till he dies. Also, this wasn't the 4th time, this was the 2nd, they already said before Garden's release that IW will be Kiryu's last game as a playable character. I just wish they weren't so adamant about Ichiban carrying the series, he already captured our hearts in 7 with his kindness, why would they be so worried about him carrying the series forward on his own? It was stated in the Man who Erased his Name that the one thing Kiryu wants the most is to reunite with his kids. Not to mention that emotional scene he had about them in the end. Haruka was at the hospital Kiryu was at the hospital Kiryu has gotten his name back Theres no reason they couldnt give us a scene of Haruka and Kiryu reuniting. It couldve been a super emotional moment and one of the highlights of the game.

The old Yakuza way of winning through strength rather than intelligence and the way loyalty is valued. Looking at the side quests, there are many white choices, but since he is a Yakuza who has fallen into the dark path, Kiryu always wears a suit with a mixture of white and black. It is a device that makes it stand out even more.

You know what is crazy? In a few years there is a chance of us seeing a grown up Haruto as a protagonist or as a companion for ichiban. Of course i don't think that it will be something as Kiryu past affecting Haruto directly but it could be something else like Haruto as a young man going to Kamurocho and trying to become like his grandfather in the histories he heard about his youth from haruka and the others. Trying to become a legendary fighter and through out the journey he goes through he starts to understand that his grandfather didn't do it for fame or glory but to protect the ones he loves. Knowing learning it Haruto slowly becomes more mature and changes from a reckless delinquent to the image of a wise guy that only fights to protect himself or others.

In a perfect world where that night in 1996 didn't happen, Haruka would have been Kiryu's daughter since it was obvious Kiryu and Yumi loved each other, but this isn't a perfect world and still Haruka became the closest thing Kiryu had to a daughter, and has repeatedly put his life in danger to protect her. So i can't imagine how painful it is for him to stay away, especially now he doesn't have much time left, but at least at the end he can spend time with her and his grandson again.

This ending for Kiryu is the most hopeful that I could think of for the state he's been put in. He spent the entire game and years before just hoping to leave the world with no trouble. Now he truly sees the impact he's had on people and wants to see out his days with them instead of by himself. Kiryu will not let himself die to cancer now, thanks to Nanba, Kasuga and Date, as well as all of his new and old friends. For Kiryu's character, after the horrible twist of his cancer, I feel that this is the best ending. He's finally been put in his place by nature and told to relax. He's still the strongest man on the planet, but his body cannot keep on. His influence has already gone through his kids and friends, most importantly, Kasuga. Now it's time to reap the rewards of his good deeds, which are mightier than he thinks. He'll live on, no doubt. Just wait for Sensei Kiryu in a wheelchair, teaching Kasuga how to Komaki parry.

Never been more disappointed in RGG. They knew everyone wanted to see the reunion between Kiryu and his kids, yet they teased it multiple times throughout the game with no payoff at the end. Will probably be my last yakuza game because of this.

There are many reasons why they had to make that decision. First of all because of Daidoji who keeps tab around Kiryu so he won't appear to his old friends as when they decided to kidnap and torture Date, they warned Kiryu to not mess around and reminded him that he still dead to the world. Second, the damage of rumors, due to the doxxing of Kiryu from Tatara which widespread through the country about his survival, Kiryu cannot keep himself from public which damaging the company that Daigo and Watase created as the rumors about Tojo clan revival are spreaded like wildfire. Third, Kiryu are a little bit of a coward, he seldom to expressing himself to the others because of many things including the deaths of 2 friends that cares for him in Y1, he always work alone so nobody will be harmed and he always keeping everything on arms length and then push it away when he needs it. As for the old acquaintances, some of them decided to keep Kiryu hidden in their hearts knowing that he "died" so they safe from harm. During events in Y6, Daidoji faction even able to manipulate the laws to kidnap Haruka under the orders from Tsuneo which proven to be the danger to everyone around Kiryu even if they able to defend themselves. If Kiryu take the money in Y6, Tojo will be on rampage because of Kiryu getting shot and Daigo won't be released from prison so nobody will take care of the rampaging Tojo.

I think they ruined his story since the ending of Y6, then on Gaiden they shove me in the face with the absolute absurdity of that decision and its horrendous consequences, only for Kiryu to still be ok with that dumbass decision. I'm honestly disappointed. I like Ichiban and i'm fine with the idea of him taking over but they really screwed this ending up. Pretty much everybody wanted to see a Kiryu and Haruka with Haruto reunion,possibly with the orphanage kids too but this? Come on man i even tortured myself to play the turn based combat crap just to get to see Kiryu's story ending and all i got to see was this..... Was it so hard to give this man a final happy ending where you could finally see everybody actually meet him again and see a bit of happiness on his face especially after we saw Gaiden's ending? It would've been bad if Haruka saw him but it's ok that Daigo,Majima and Saejima got to see him lol as if they didn't know he's alive since Gaiden

They can met actually, Daidoji already released Kiryu from their shackles because of Kiryu is sick and he already took care of the damage caused by Ebina and Bryce. The nameplate on the bed is Kiryu Kazuma and not Taichi Suzuki which implied that Daidoji granting a "True Resurrection" of Kiryu so he can be with his beloved in his final moments before his death.
