Maya civilization collapsed around 900 BC, many centuries before the Spanish conquest of Mesoamerica. Other than that I enjoyed very much your quiz.

Thanks for commenting. Whilst what is referred to as the classic Mayan civilization collapsed long before the Spanish arrived, the Mayans as a people continued and were conquered by the Spanish. There are many historical references to this.

Though the nation as a nation died out between 800-1000, remnants of the Mayas lasted until 1697.

It’s technically true, yes, but it’s a bit of a strange question since usually people refer to the classical Maya states/civilization. It’s a bit like saying that the British conquered and colonized the Assyrians, you know because the UK ruled Iraq after WW1

92 (94 with bonus points). I basically failed at a few questions about Africa, which US president signed the act and the sepsis doctor and the teacher of Plato. I'm actually a tiny bit surprised I got so many modern questions (19th and 20th century questions). I'm from Norway and my special interest is ancient and medieval history, as well as Napoleonic, though I am fond of all history. That said because they came with options the quiz was a lot easier than it could have been. Without the options I would have failed a lot more.

99/100 with the options - only missed the last of the Five Good Emperors - and 86/100 without. Don't know the Q9 bonus but I will try 18? Q35 bonus is the Supermarine Spitfire, unless it also had some alphanumeric code assigned to it that I can't think of.

The leader of the Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae was King Leonidas. Here's a story about his legendary stand: In the summer of 480 BCE, the Persian Empire, under the rule of King Xerxes, was on the march, seeking to conquer Greece. The Greek city-states, normally fractured and at odds with one another, united against the common threat. Among them, the Spartans stood as the epitome of martial prowess and unyielding courage. At the forefront of this resistance was King Leonidas of Sparta. A seasoned warrior and a shrewd leader, Leonidas was chosen to lead a small force to the narrow pass of Thermopylae, the "Hot Gates," a strategic chokepoint where the vastly outnumbered Greek forces could hold off the Persian army.

I do not think that you can say that the Spaniards conquered the Mayas because: 1- The Spaniards conquered the Aztecs and surrounding peoples while the Mayas that still existed where elsewhere. 2- The major Mayan empires had collapsed by the time the Spaniards arrived although there were still Mayans scattered in the Yucatan peninsula and Guatemala. 3- There were no wars between the Spaniards and Mayas 4- The Spaniards were mostly unaware of the Mayas while they were in New Spain.

Very few (if any) of these questions are the kind you have to reason out. They are facts - either you know them, or you don't. THEREFORE - you don't need 10 seconds or more to figure them out. This test is good, but takes too long.
