I've played Nioh 2 for over 2000 hours. So, how does Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty match up so far?

You have no ideas how many people comments in youtube or steam that this game is sucks because its SUPER EASY, some even say they can parry everything with eyes closed, or finding his phone on the bed, which do you think they are really making sense?

the main thing about the "just deflect everything" argument which plagued Sekiro it's not about how difficult it is but just that why should you do anything else then that's when they have to introduce attacks that literally cannot be deflected

With Sekiro it's not like it's something that becomes monotonous - I found it remained satisfying to keep perfecting the parry system, and as you said not everything can be parried, as there's 'burst' attacks that you need to have really fast decision making and reflexes to deal with in a rock paper scissors like system. Plus position and dodging can also be used instead of parrying to punish enemies, especially with prosthetics.

@@pootytang69 preface I only finished Wo Long Demo and my experience with Sekiro is almost certainly shallow compared to Nioh The main thing is the separation of resources between offence and defence, once you learn the defence there is basically no reason not to just play parry simulator. In Nioh since Ki is used both for offence and defence, there is trade offs to be made though even then there can still be the problem of "just dodge everything, blocking is worthless". That is part of why I don't completely like Burst Counter because it is objectively the best thing to do even though I find Brute Burst Counter very interesting to work with.

You don't do it all the time here because it costs stamina and you can get fucked over very badly for messing up counters. There is also risk/reward with this system as weapon skills and magic also consume stamina, so you are hobbling your offensive capability by being overly passive and focusing on trying to counter everything. It will take more thought than sekiro where you can literally mash l1 through attack chains and probably end up fine

@@TheArnoldification From what I could see from Wo Long demo, deflect nets positive in spirit so it leads to an overall win more system. As I said, it's not about how difficult it is because you can always learn to not make the same mistakes. When you reach that point, all you can be left with is "just deflect everything" Nioh also kind of had this problem with "just dodge everything, blocking is worthless"

@UnrealityZero I don't really see how you can solve that as an issue. That's just fundamental to a game with reaction-based gameplay that you get good enough where you can avoid damage on reaction. I think it's better to focus on "are the defense mechanics fun?" than anything else here. Realistically it is going to take some time to get to the point you can just effortlessly deflect everything and as you've pointed out it's been like that for nioh as well.

TN is free to use their creativity however they please. I'm excited to play a new take from TN, and I'm going in without comparing the 2 different IP's. Change isn't always required as some studios like to do, but similarly, never changing makes the formula stale.

I am honestly disappointed with Wo Long. I knew it wouldnt be "Nioh 3", but it lacks a lot of what made Nioh 2 interesting for me. My main gripe is the lack of attack variety. Without stances and weapon skill trees, you basically have your light attack you can spam, and your strong attack you use once your spirit gauge is full. Martial arts often are simply too long to use them safely.

Yeah, PC version. On Best Performance settings, it runs overall pretty well. There were FPS dips when there were a ton of effects. But, I am using a video card that is less than what's recommended.

NGL, as someone who Plat both Nioh 1 and 2, I do wish this game had more weapon variety but what we got is pretty good atm. Now if only the PC optimization wasn't such a mess XD

From what I played it's exactly the same co-op system as nioh 2 - you can either respond to help requests through a menu in the shrine or create a lobby to do multiple missions with the same people (I did not check to see if the lives system present in nioh 2's lobbies is also in the wo long lobbies)

This game is fun , i really enjoyed it and did all achievements. i missed the stance system they did in NIOH , sometimes unconditionally while playing WO long , i tried to change the stance :) having martial arts specific per weapon is fun , however , overall fighting experience is not as versatile as Nioh. the game has some aspects of NIOh and you can see that while fighting some bosses , they are mix of NIOH bosses , look for Liu Bei , a mix of yomi of lights and minamoto youtisune. Luckily there is no boss like Saito Toshimitsu :) conclusion: Game is Fun and playable ,also less harder than Nioh

I think my only gripe is how samey a lot of the weapons feel, and the Martial Arts being RNG.... though the game sure is fun, kinda feels like they left a lot of the QOL from Nioh 2 behind, which is a shame. Oh and for some reason the optimization is really dogshit for my card :(

Hey dude! I'm struggling with something and I'm not sure if I'm just missing it or what. I'm wondering if you can help? It's to do with gear. 1) I cant seem to find a way to compare gear. Like, equipped gear vs backpack gear. And 2) does gear have levels? Like, it seems like it doesn't, which is fine (slightly annoying), but then some of my gear has "inheritance" on it, which says it will raise to the max level of held gear when upgraded at the blacksmith. So I'm confused. Anyway, if you get a moment to tell me your thoughts, I'd really appreciate it.

I haven't been able to find how to compare gear. I suspect TN will add that in. Gear does have levels which you can upgrade as the Blacksmith. Inheritance basically allows free upgrades. That's why I just equipped that gear and then upgraded it for free so I could focus on other aspects of the game.

@@PooferLlama Oh I see! Thanks dude. So if gear doesn't drop with a "+Number", it's basic level 0. And from there everything can upgraded? Yeah, I hope they add "compare gear", as I find that so useful. My memory is not good enough to remember more than like ONE stat at a time! haha.

It’s a little bit harder due to deflect mechanics but once you have it down, the game is incredibly flashy and manageable if your eyes can keep up

Like most things, it will vary player to player, but the general consensus, as well as what you can see with your own eyes, it's a very streamlined experience. Similar to Sekiro in that regard (IMO) Considerably easier to beat, anyways; but possibly harder to truly master. Difficulty depends entirely on deflects. Are you good at parrying/deflecting (countering for fighting games), Wo Long will be much easier on the whole, but still challenging. If you aren't good at those skills, you're probably going to find it far more challenging. To put into terms of Nioh: did you focus more on making super strong builds, min/maxing, gear and stats to play the game; or focus more on the combat itself, the combo/stance management, knowing your enemies, etc? There looks to be much you can do with builds in Wo Long as well, but they seem to emphasize the combat, rather than dictate it. Either way, it's lots of fun, and ultimately, anyone can get to the finish line... mileage will vary

The game is fun but not as diverse as nioh games. Also I enjoyed the concept of unlocking skills based on using the weapon as it was in nioh. That said 8/10 game for me so far. -2 points just mainly for many level designs and enemies just being bland and repetitive, which is a big deal for me personally while keeping the game fresh.

I've been playing only about 10 hours. But idk man it just doesn't feel as good as nioh 2. Something about the movement and fluidity in and out of combat just feels a bit more stiff and unrefined. cant put my finger on it but idk.

No. At least, not in the current state. There's normal attacks, and spirit attacks. Square and Triangle. Though there are interesting interactions with when you do spirit attacks, and what you did previously. But no extensive list of different attacks for each weapon. It's a different game, with combat nothing alike Nioh... but it's really satisfying and fun

I hope getting a deflect in this game is similar to getting a Parry in Nioh or Souls series or like a Sekiro Deflect If it is similiar to landing a Backwave in Nioh 2 (aka pretty much impossible unless your are coked up or on ADHD meds) then we're fucked. I parry kill Malenia in Elden Ring with barely missing a single parry, i think i landed 5 backwaves in like 60 tries, that shit is just fking insanely hard, strictest timing i have ever faced in any video game, dunno what person in their right mind thought to make the timing on the backwave be frame perfect to perform..

Haha I feel you. But actually when you put on an extended timely guard star roll/the sword mystic art and parry press L1 a fair amount earlier than you might think (right in the middle of the animation) it becomes very doable. I get it more consistently than Dark souls parries now

@@ramikpark8387 It's basically a harder version of a parry, normally parries in Nioh 2, you guard and then you either press (for PS controller) Triangle or Square right before the enemy connects to do that specific parry. For backwave, you have to press L1 trigger (block) just before the enemy's attack connects without keeping your guard up like other parries, however the timeframe for that is extremely small

This is why I'm sticking with Nioh 2, I haven't even played beyond DotD or done the last two DLCs, I have hundreds of hours of enjoyment left in that game still. I'll play Wo Long in the complete edition. What I enjoy the most about Nioh 2 is the deep endgame, which was only really there post-DLC.

For me the simplicity at the "nioh" genre doesn't suit at all. Only thing I want from Team Ninja is deep combat system. Because of that the last demo was very bad for Team Ninja standards for me. I hope that we will have deeper combat in the full game.

So poofer I came from wo long to nioh 2 and I gotta say wo long is great value nioh at best yes the game was fun for a few but it's way to accessible way to easy to pick up, don't get me wrong I love dynasty warriors and if they give me Zhou tai all my complaints dissappear 😂 but unless dlcs fundamentally change the game its a 1 and done

if this game would have m/k controls and wasn't capped at 60 fps as the steam version is, sure , i would love to give it a try. But its literally not playable like this. And even if it was, imagine having a game locked to 60 fps in 2023, absolutely ridiculous. Worst pc release in a long time. Getting my money back and wont ever preorder or buy one of their games at release day ever again. What and absolute shit show this game/release is for pc players.

Wow, those were certainly words. Nothing fundamentally game changing will show up in dlcs. The game is complete. It's not even like Nioh where a couple new weapons will change the core gameplay much. So it's not complete because systems TN haven't developed yet, or possibly decided to develop at all (extra difficulties, some endgame grind. both of which, may or may not change anything). ?

Meh. Not a fan of team ninja's new take on stamina. And there's also the chance of being invaded so there will be a pvp scene similar to souls. I can already see fightingcowboy and all the "souls" content creators hopping on this though. So be ready for that crowd. Other than that, it's quite something to look at though.
