Fun fact: Bogman means a body that is preserved in peat grounds. Had an Irishman tell me this is a bit of an insult. But I have no clear understanding yet
@TheMildOne3 жыл бұрын
I mean it's not exactly an insult (speaking as a british person) it's just a bit weird to call someone out of context. The worse it could imply is that they are homeless or unkempt and I don't think hozier would have much of an issue with that
@christalcavanaugh3 жыл бұрын

Another fun fact: Like Real People Do is about a bog body, according to internet legend
@Frankie-gb2vr3 жыл бұрын
I know that quite a few of the most well-preserved bog bodies where likely dumped in the bog after being executed (see here: www.britannica.com/list/9-noteworthy-bog-bodies-and-what-they-tell-us) so maybe calling someone a “bog man” is synonymous with being a criminal or that they should be dumped in a bog. Idk I just think they are neat

Does anyone feel like this song gives the feeling like I was on a solo hike in the woods only to trip along the path and sprain my ankle badly, only to be found by a lone man who heard my cries through the trees, who takes me back to his isolated cabin to nurse me back to health since the lack of phone signal means it's nearly impossible to get anyone out here to get me, and so begins a week of intimate cohabitation with nothing but the wind through the leaves and the space between us in bed (because OF COURSE there's only one bed, and he lives alone so naturally we just have NO CHOICE but to share it and conserve heat in the cabin), but it's the end of the week and my ankle is feeling well enough for the hike back so he decides he'll send me off the next morning, but in the meantime, we've got a fire, a storm approaching, and a guitar, so perhaps he'll entertain me with a song since we'll be parting ways soon when I'm hit with the notion that maybe, just maybe, I don't want to leave. No? Just me? Okay.

Ok so a bit of a pov for all you hopeless romantics like me. You and your lover had finally had enough of the stressful city life so you both came to the woods to start a life where you could love without feeling like the world was just empty. One day you wake up to your lover playing the guitar and singing more to themself rather then out loud, they notice you standing in the door way and start to sing louder so you can hear better. You curl up next to them and lay there so wrapped up in the love you have for each other. Sorry if this is bad lol, it was just the first thing that popped into my mind.

This makes me feel like someone I just met but instantly know I can trust brought me to their cosy cabin after finding me lost in a storm in the woods right before it got dark and made sure I was dry and gave me some warm soup and is now trying to calm me down because I was very scared and somehow it’s working

The way this song reads to me always stirs my brain. Hozier says he was inspired by the idea of someone digging up a body and falling in love with it and you can definitely read that from the lyrics but there's more. It obviously told from the perspective of the one who was dead and brings up questions the diggers motives but kinda dismisses them saying "we should just kiss like real people do". So the way i view this is someone desperate for love going and saving/fixing someone, metaphorically pulling them from the grave. But ultimately the digger cannot love the one theu brought back because the love was empty to begin with. But the dead one does love the digger for pulling them back to life, they ask questions but ultimately stop asking and settle of one last REAL kiss before watching the digger move on and fulfill themselves finding a love they can reciprocate

Okay, hear me out, fan fic idea: someone playing guitar in the middle of the woods, and accidentally awaken an ancient forest king (Hozier), moved by their song. He never wanted to be king, but did it for his family.
