Likely Tornado Kills At Least 2 In Tennessee

A mother and daughter were killed Thursday night in Tennessee after a possible tornado, according to local emergency management.
The Morgan County Sheriff's Office said severe weather impacted the Deer Lodge and Sunbright communities about 8:30 p.m. local time. The likely tornado struck about 60 miles northeast of Knoxville.
The sheriff's office said the storm also caused "severe property damage." The county's emergency management agency said three other people were hurt. At least 100 first responders, including personnel from Tennessee Highway Patrol, rushed to the scene.

In the USA, 2024 was the most intense year for tornadoes in the last decade. And in Europe, 1,035 tornadoes were recorded in 2024, which became a new European record. Unfortunately, this is just the beginning.

Oklahoma had 152 and set a new record. Their norm is around 50-60 per year. Texas also had 152, but had 170 in 2019.

@ There were 3 or 4 EF5's in 2024. There will be one every so often in tornado alley. And yeah when a cold front meets warm air they sprout up quickly.

I was in the sunbright basketball youth club basketball practice when this happened we were all so scared we had to move into the school and everyone was scared ive never seen my teamates like that and i never want to again

That sad. At the least they weren't alone. Please be aware of weather for the day. Especially in the south. We are prone to tornadoes anytime of the year. Phones usually always give a warning now. Being on the road in a tornado warned area is not a good idea and especially at night. Southern tornados are usually rain wrapped and hard to see even in the daytime. Rest in peace to them both and I hope the family finds some peace eventually.

I used to live in Morgan County like 15 years ago. I knew these two people that got killed and some of their other family members. Sad

Mountains don't stop tornados. That is a dangerous myth. Not freaking out on you, just letting you know. Terrain doesn't really have the ability to stop an already formed tornado.
