I've taken your first row of data and built a column in an Excel spreadsheet with 21 fours, 49 threes, 287 twos, and 143 ones. Using the data in this column, I can replicate your calculation of the mean and standard deviation for these values. However, using Excel's StDev formula, I arrive at a standard deviation of 0.7364 for the values. This result can be verified using Descriptive Statistics in Excel's Data Analysis package. Why is there a difference in these results compared to yours? Am I missing something?

Good job sir. But I think one thing is missing. You have to squareroot the first mean before subtracting the 2nd mean from the first then square the answer before you get STD. Example.55 SA, 6 A, 25 D, 14 SD. Total response is 100. The first mean is 3.020.....STD from SpSS is 1.17. I want us to apply this method to see if we can get the STd.

Yeah something is odd with the calculations i just did this and i got 1.166 ~ 1.17 from my excel mobile like right now. He was supposed to square the mean before the square root of their difference
