On the romantic ideal of Paris being a reality: "Do you think it's true?" Damon asks. Just by the sly smile and the hopeful little sideways look, you can tell he thinks it is indeed true. :) Alas, Damon, you have an artist's heart. Keep the poetry of life alive. It resides in making ideals into reality.
@damondominique4 жыл бұрын
I do think it's true! It even sounds cheesy as I write this but I believe it 100%: that no matter where you are, there are so many beautiful moments - it's just up to us to see them. Told you it might come across as cheesy - but even that, I feel like it only comes across as cheesy, once again, to people who don't really *want* to see the beautiful moments. I think you see what you want in any situation - the good or the bad, and it's up to us to pick which side we're dealing with that day.

The open relationship convo has always intrigued me. I remember one person I talked to said something ab not having every facet of themselves satisfied by another person, and thus an open relationship ensured that they could explore different aspects of themselves with different people. Personally I still think it's possible to find a person that satisfies you intellectually, emotionally, and sexually/physically. maybe it takes more patience and looking, but open relationships feel like a cop out. Maybe not every relationship is "the one" but my dream is still to find that one.
@katieakin9397 Жыл бұрын
I think people should explore the relationships that feel most authentic to them. “Cop out” implies that being monogamous is our obligation - says who? These are broader questions that intrigue me, like tracing the origins of the supposed morality around being monogamous. This societal norm contradicts the rising divorce rates that point to a possibility that being together with one person forever doesn’t work for half of the people who get married in the U.S.. I don’t think it’s a matter of “either or”, I think what’s right will differ for each person as to whether they want a closed or open relationship. Also, open relationships can include clearly defined boundaries and parameters.

re: feeling "behind" friends or acquaintances at home.. I have lived abroad for the past 5 years and struggled with this feeling until I aged out of it (mid 20s are such a confusing time for SURE) but when I *actually* talked to the people back home, a majority of them spoke about how they wished they'd taken more risks, explored more, how cool my life seemed, etc.. basically the grass is always greener and shit gets easier as you gain confidence and know yourself better (it also helped me a lot to move beyond entry level jobs and start making good money, not gonna lie) I think it's v rare to feel like you made a choice or a commitment to a certain life path with full confidence it was 100% the best choice for you and nothing else might be better or more comfortable or interesting. It's more important to be ok with not being sure.

I have been talking to some of them, and while they look certain, they’re def still doubting their decisions. I feel like we put so much pressure on ourselves in this age and think that we should have our life figured out but sometimes it just takes time. Personally what i think i should do is stop comparing my life to theirs. I AM improving in a way that’s suitable for me, no matter how many $$ others are making or how many babies they have. I always feel better when i compare myself to how i used to be and what i’ve done to work on myself and i alwaaaaaays feel bitter af when i compare myself to others. Bottom line is don’t compare yourself to others.

I am so fucking ecstatic about this series! To comment on “Didn’t we all move for love?”: I feel so called out. Damien, that is exactly why I’m moving to a big city. Fuck it, it’s fine. Love is phenomenal!

I like that you put a 'context' subtitle in the vid, in 30 years people will loose the context - heck, hopefully, in 5 years - the pandemic will be be forgotten - but not the people that were lost to it - they should be remembered, and the health care and support workers who 'worked' through it.

How does she have an American accent? I thought she was an American first.
@caj34204 жыл бұрын
it isn’t as uncommon as you think! i come from a country where the first language is english but the general accent is very different to that of an american accent. however, i spent a lot of my life watching american tv shows, movies and videos that i ended up picking up an american accent too!
@douloureux.4 жыл бұрын
do you like pizza? cuz I want a pizza dat ass yes? It’s not like we absorb another accent within a few months. We grow up with American English and if you speak English in everyday life, even if the native people have another accent, it’s gonna get ‘better’.
@strawwberryyy4 жыл бұрын
well... a lot of europeans use english so much that you just naturally pick it up... I think it's way easier than the british accent we were all taught in schools lmao

I'm Dutch as well and sound like I'm American. I grew up watching American movies/tv shows and started speaking English from the age of 6.

Also, what is the idea that you have to "do something with your life"? Why do you have to do anything? It's all just other people's beliefs of what makes success, or happiness, or what the meaning of life is

Do something with your life that aligns with YOUR beliefs of what makes success, happiness and what the meaning of life is. If you don’t attach meaning to anything you’re just there. It’s about to have something to work towards that feels worthwhile to you, so your time here feels most valuable
@brynmcclennan9734 жыл бұрын
Christine see but that’s your belief :). What happens if I want to do literally nothing for the rest of my life and I don’t believe there is any meaning in life since we are animals? But I “need” to do something so that other people feel better about themselves
@papuko_o4 жыл бұрын
Bryn McClennan you’re absolutely right. If you choose to not bother with life, that’s your decision, and I think seeing the environment we live in that’s understandable. However- as a fellow being in existence. I encourage you to use this opportunity of life available to you to find something that’s worth the search. Can’t promise you you’ll find it, but since you’re already alive anyways. Why not give it a shot?
@brynmcclennan9734 жыл бұрын
Christine haha I’m not saying I don’t want to do anything :) I have lots of stuff I love. I’m just saying isn’t it weird that feeling like you have to “do something” in life isn’t even a real thing?
