The Lille metro operates in Lille, France. It consists of 2 lines numbered 1 (yellow) and 2 (red). Rather than being a conventional railway, it uses the French VAL technology, like other French metros. It was the first VAL system to be installed. The VAL system runs on rubber tyres, using side roller tyres for steering, much like a guided busway. There are no conventional rails like other rubber tyre metros, at junctions, guidance is provided by a slot in the middle of the track. It is fully automated, and uses platform screen doors. Trains are short but very frequent and fast. Overall it is one of the best metro systems I've used!
