I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (April 23, 2023), this was the basis for our Sunday School Lesson of the Day. It was entitled "Jesus Reinstates Peter." The hymn, "Good Christian Friends, Rejoice and Sing."

Tithes have NOTHING to do with our love for Christ, I wish Pastors would stop teaching this. There are so many people who love the Lord who do not have a penny to their name and maybe home bound they hear a message like this and doubt their love for Christ it’s unfair. This is probably why the message received a thumbs down.

You missed the whole message. Tithes had nothing to do with the message. At that particular point in message, he was making a difference between love that is like and love that’s devoted.

@@robtruss1108 Hello Rob, I did not miss the entire message I listened as I do the majority of his messages. I also understood the concept. Loving the Lord has NOTHING to do with paying tithes. If you love me keep my commandments, you and I both know there is no command to pay tithes. We as believers are no longer under Mosaic law, the tithe was given to the Levites and the priest because they did not receive a portion ( no land etc.). So the Jews tithed in order to care for the priest i.e. Levites. Yes I believe as church members we should care for our Pastors and as a congregation we care for the church, no doubt, it is our responsibility. My issue is it is not a pre-requisite for loving the Lord, tithing is not showing God we love him. Obedience is better than sacrifice, living a life Holy and acceptable to God is what He wants, you can keep your money. However if you live your life acceptable to Christ you will give to your church. How are you living, thats what He (Jesus) cares about. My grandmother loves the Lord and she has shown it in the way she lives her life, but she does not attend church and she does not pay tithes, does this mean she does not love the Lord? 2 Corinthians 9:7.

@@marcushayden1358 No..."monetary" tithes is not a requirement. Study your bible for yourself. Tithes is food! bring.. tithes in the storehouse.. that there may be meat..= food; windows of heaven.. pour you out a blessing = rain for crops to grow food; ..for the widow, the poor, the stranger at the gate..= food; sowing seed = food (used in parables as the Word) Most diehard tithers are..1. ignorant of the Word and don't study for themselves, 2. believe tithing gets them into the kingdom and they can commit sin, 3. It makes them look good in church with the pastor, 4. It's to deceive others to give their money while they intern keep theirs or get it back after service, or 5. they are next in line to be the pastor, preacher, or someone that will get tithes from the people. It's THEIR turn. 🤨 Yes faith without works is dead; but it's not BY works lest any man should boast. It's by His Spirit! Question: If there was famine in the land for years..no crops were growing.. if you had no storehouses of food, what would tithes as money do? Remember the dream of the king.. the skinny cows and the fat cows? Be Blessed!
