It's really interesting how that can happen even in real life. Something can look absolutely horrible but you move it like an inch and it looks great. Or it looks bad but you just change the lighting and suddenly it's amazing. When it comes to things like patterns it's all about using something bold as a statement then other things to tone it down. So that one bold item might look terrible but it'll look better later once everything is added. That's why Simsie was saying sometimes it's good to just leave it and come back to it later. You might put something in you think looks good then it doesn't look too great, but once everything else is in place it's perfect.

Simsie, I proooomise you two or three matching items in a room is not "too much" 😅 My entire room is from a matching IKEA set, you either go all out with mismatched furniture or try to match, near-matching-but-not-really things look wacky.

The issue is in the Sims it doesn't look good. Once you have too many things matching it becomes hard to find anything to really fit in the room. In real life when you can easily just get things made in a different color, with a different wood, reupholstered with a different pattern, etc it's much easier to match or even mismatch things. When you have very limited swatches on Sims though you need to try and use similar things but not exact same things.

Just make the robe item slot to doors and have it move with them. That's literally all it needs. Hanging robes, jackets, coats, etc on doors is extremely common in real life and would look great here even on the back of a front door and such. I'd love to have my Sim's cold weather coat just hanging on the front door here.

i think the smallest one might actually be in san myshuno, in the apartments near the penthouse. it has pink carpeting and has the needs TLC trait. it's super small and only 1 bedroom, i just used it for my household, 1 mom and a daughter

No, she's correct. This apartment is 70 tiles. The smallest in San Myshuno is the Chic Street one at 72 tiles, the pink carpet one everyone thinks is tiny is actually 81 tiles.

When I was 5, I loved 101 Dalmatians. I had themed wallpaper, bedding, closet doors painted like Dalmatians, pjs, bathrobe. If it was 101 Dalmatians I had it lolol

My favorite part about that is when kids want like EVERYTHING to be clouds then they get older and eventually walk into their bedroom disgusted one day like "..This is way too much cloud." Wish Sims would do that honestly. Have kids and teens just randomly *really* hate their bedroom and want something to change. Stay angry about it until something does change too. I think every kid and teen goes through that many times growing up. I know I used to just randomly be like "I hate this.. I'm moving everything around." Even as an adult I get that way from time to time.

@@Eventide215 That would have been a great gameplay feature for Dream Home Decorator. Or even as a regular want/fear, where the sim becomes bored or annoyed by their decor and wants to switch things up. I think I might start adding that to my own gameplay now

@@silversleeper1193 It'd add personality, realism, and change to the game. Having your sims actually become bored of the same exact layout and want you to change at least something. That's supposed to be the point behind whims that want you to buy something. Like on Sims 3 how Sims would constantly want to buy something specific. But I want something a bit more drastic too. Like for them to just suddenly want a complete revamp. You're right that would be great for Dream Home Decorator and have a lesser version that's base game. Like more of them just wanting to buy certain things and it affecting their mood.

Last time I renovated this apartment I used the TOOL mod to change the door placement + windows. It drives me nuts how that front door is almost going into the wall. I’m really living for your build videos lately Kayla!

I swear I remembered being able to move the apartment doors and windows and simsie would always say she couldn’t and I would go to my game and just do it and I was so confused. Then I never really figured out how to use TOOL even though I really want to because it was just too complicated to resize things the way I thought I could with it. So eventually I stopped updating it and just removed it. Cuz I felt like I never used it. This was like a year or more ago? And now I can’t change the apartment doors and windows. AND I NEVER CONNECTED THE TWO??

@@svogel6459 lmao it can be a bit fiddly, but once you figure it out it’s not so bad! You have to build a new wall parallel to the apartment wall, place the door you want in it, then use the gravity pull feature to move it into the apartment wall. There are a few youtube videos on it if you ever fancy trying again!

If you get the door/window glitch in apartments, click them with the design tool. You can't select them but it fixes the problem regardless. :)

I love the apartments in Evergreen Harbor bc they changes aesthetic depending on the Community thing modern development thingy. 😭 I wish we get more apartments on future worlds. Or row houses.

I live in a major US city with highly walkable neighborhoods dominated by apartment/condos. I don’t find the big ones to be unrealistic at all. Families with children and people with well paying jobs live in multi family buildings.

I love Evergreen Harbor apartments! I always go for them when deciding to go the apartment route. But something I use a LOT when renovating them, is half-walls. I'm addicted to them, especially making them with windows. I guess because I like open floorplans, but then furniture placements never look right. Half walls are the perfect solution.

Half walls are great. Like how the kitchen on the default apartment here has them to help make sense of the counters and couch placement. It doesn't cut off the entire room, but gives separation. I love using room dividers too when a half wall is too bulky. Like the wooden slats that came with Eco Lifestyle. I love placing those as a way to slightly section off like the living room and dining room without having an actual wall.

I just looked it up and it uses Xbox Game pass so sadly it wouldn’t be able to cc or mods. And idk if you could even get any other packs that aren’t included with game pass. Rn game pass only has get to work

Another reason why apartments suck, at least in Evergreen Harbour is that the windows change over time, both in size and placement. So you design your apartment at the start of your game (or download one from the gallery at a different stage as your game) around a certain window, but as the neighborhood evolves it just doesn't work the same anymore.

When this door bug happens in apartments just use the tool that lets you change the color of an placed object and click to the door. It should fix the problem as long as i am aware.

To me, personally, it would make a lot more sense to make a bedroom of the space with the small sqaure window. You're going to be there at night anyway, to sleep, so the light isn't that big of a deal, and all you need the window for is to ventilate, which can be done with a smaller window. It's the living spaces in which you want to windows to be. Unless you're a vampire of course! then daylight might be not that high of a priority

That one is 9x9 so 81 tiles. This one is 70 tiles. I think the square one just feels small because you're comparing it to the rest of San Myshuno which is ridiculously oversized for city apartments.

I find that this specific apartment lends itself very well for like two university students, roommate style. Two rooms, tiny kitchenette, two bar stools, teeny sitting area (although realistically not many student apartments here have a shared living space lol)

Cloud themed kids rooms always. When I was young my mum went all out with decals and spray paint and window hangings to make the ultimate cloudy/start sky bedroom. I will spend the rest of forever failing to capture the magic when recreating it in the sims

I do like that tip of deleting enough walls to turn an apartment into a room. I've renovated every apartment in San Myshuno, but haven't saved them. I'll have to go back and use that trick so they're accessible for any new game I start.

The one thing I like that you can't do with the City Living apartments that you can do with the Eco Living one are you CAN change the exterior windows/doors using some of the eco improvement gameplay things that come with the pack.

You can fix the glitched doors and windows by clicking on them with the swatch changing tool (idk how it's called). It ofc can't change the swatch but it does remove the glitch:)

The small apartment makes me think that the sims who live there spend most of there time out and about. I would also switch it around and have the living area in the back space with the big windows because the bedroom can be small and just to sleep in.
