To me, Ether mean 'feeling alive'. Many people live their life but feel dead inside but there're moment when you can feel 'ether'. In this movie, those character refer Lily chou chou as their ether because they feel alive when listening to her music.

I'm also turning 16 in march 2024, but its so great to also see someone watching this at the age of 15. I wish I could watch the movie with you guys at 15. I wish to see the movie and this comment earlier so that we could talk about the movie and the song. Beside that, I think ether can be mean as feeling 'at peace' with yourself too. When life is crazy and nothing seem to make sense anymore, you cave in to your own little world, listen to music that nourish your soul while standing among that beautiful green field scenerio and at that moment you feel 'at peace'. :) PS. One of the best pictures ever made. Every song is phenomenal. Everything about this movie is phenomenal. A cinematic marvel.... Now, that I think about it, the lyrics can have double meaning, one that is symbolic and another that is literal. In the last part, the song says, I have no wings to fly, so I walk in the air and soar up in the sky (meaning: she felt that life was useless, so she decided to fly- and die, literally the same action one character of this movie made).
